Two shut-down starts, then the blowouts
September 6, 2026 was a 15-game Sunday, and the pitching card did not hide. Bryan Woo threw eight innings and allowed one hit. Payton Tolle struck out 12 and walked nobody. Aroldis Chapman recorded the 400th save of his career in the same Baltimore game.
The team board went the other way. The Chicago White Sox scored 10, the Miami Marlins scored 10, and the Cincinnati Reds scored 12. Chicago sits first because a 10-1 bullpen four-hitter does what it does for team scoring. Miami's five-run fifth is why 20 FP lands second. Cincinnati's 12-run night against the Central leader is the loudest box score on the list, and it still sits third because Milwaukee scored eight back.

Woo's 34 is the card. Eight innings, one hit, and a 2-0 final is a different conversation from everyone else. Tolle's 12 strikeouts with zero walks would lead most Sundays. Ureña threw eight innings into a 1-0 loss at PNC Park, which is why 22 FP still comes with an L. Hjerpe's 20 in a debut is the row that is not a starter line: four perfect innings at Coors after the game was already 5-1.

Burger's two homers in a comeback from two four-run holes is the hitting story. De La Cruz's four-RBI afternoon against the Central leader is next. Acuña's tying swing in the eighth in Philadelphia belongs in the top five even though Atlanta's team score sat eighth. Antonacci's three doubles did not need a homer to land on this table.

What stood out
Woo and Tolle owned the pitching board, and they did it in different games. One needed two runs. The other needed an error and a three-run homer. Chapman's 400th is the sentence that will travel farther than either line, and it still needed Tolle's 12 strikeouts to get there.
The hitting card ran through comebacks. Burger's two homers flipped a four-run hole in Arlington. De La Cruz flipped a 6-6 game in Cincinnati. Acuña flipped a late deficit in Philadelphia. Sunday was not a quiet box-score day. It was a day when the loud swings arrived after the other club thought it had the lead.
