The Tampa Bay Rays left home after an ugly 1-9 loss to the White Sox on August 2. They did not lose again in this window. Nine games, nine wins, three sweeps, a West Coast trip that MLB.com called the first unbeaten trip of three or more series in franchise history.
AthX Engine scored team lines from August 3 through August 12. Tampa Bay finished with 123 team fantasy points. The Chicago Cubs were next at 113. The Seattle Mariners finished last at minus-20. That is not a rounding error. It is 14 runs scored and 44 allowed in eight games.
Sibling boards: hitters and pitchers.
Nine-and-oh, then eight-and-one
Tampa Bay's 10 days match the baseball story almost too cleanly. Sweep Colorado. Sweep Seattle. Sweep the Athletics. The Associated Press noted the Rays became the second East Coast club to go 9-0 on a West Coast trip, joining the 1977 Red Sox. Window line: 65 runs scored, 34 allowed, 7.22 runs per game.
The methods changed by series. Coors was a track meet (13-9, 9-7 in 11, then 4-0). Seattle was a pitching series (2-1, 3-2, 4-1). West Sacramento was a pile-on, including an eight-run eighth on August 10 and an 8-4 finale behind Drew Rasmussen. Junior Caminero and Chandler Simpson both landed on the hitter hot board. Rasmussen landed on the pitcher hot board. That is how a team total of 123 happens: bats and arms in the same 10 days, not one loud weekend.
The Cubs went 8-1, scored 64, allowed 38, and finished 10 points back. They did not need a historic road trip. They needed Alex Bregman's 10-day tear, including a three-homer, seven-RBI night in a 12-6 win in Washington, plus Pete Crow-Armstrong in the same outfield. Eight wins in nine games is a first-place-machine week even if Milwaukee still sits in front of them in the NL Central.
The middle of the board is where record lies
Boston went 4-5 and still finished third in team FP (83). Fifty-seven runs scored, 38 allowed. AthX Engine team scoring is not a win column. A club that keeps games close and piles runs can outrank a 7-3 team that scrapes.
The Padres (81 FP, 7-3) and Tigers (80 FP, 5-3, 20 runs allowed) are the cleaner versions. Detroit allowed 2.50 runs per game in the window. That is how you sit fifth without winning nine straight. The Mets (79) and Cardinals (76) both went 6-3. St. Louis also used the week to beat up Wheeler in a 7-1 finale.

The freeze: Seattle below zero
Minus-20 is the number that should sit in the headline.
The Mariners went 1-7. They scored 14 runs in eight games (1.75 per game) and allowed 44. KOMO and ESPN both described a skid that reached five, then six, straight losses, with Cal Raleigh telling reporters he was "awful" after a 4-1 loss in the Bronx. The Yankees then beat them 10-5 to run it to six.
Here is the split that makes the pitcher post required reading. Bryan Woo threw 12 scoreless innings in the window and ranked sixth among pitchers. Bryce Miller allowed 9 earned in 11 innings and landed on the cold pitcher board. Team FP does not care that one starter was excellent. Fourteen runs as a club will sink the whole sheet.
The next names on the floor are ugly in a more ordinary way. The Pirates (8 FP, 2-7, 26 runs). The Athletics (10 FP, 2-7, 63 runs allowed). The Angels (14 FP, 23 runs scored). The Giants (15 FP, 3-6, 23 runs), which is the club Rafael Devers just posted a 4-point hitting week for. The Reds (18 FP) split 4-4 and still could not score (25 runs).
The Dodgers (33 FP, 4-5) and Yankees (48 FP, 5-3) are mid-pack, not disasters. They are also not the 9-0 Rays. A 10-day team board is allowed to be rude to brands.

Cold rank 1 is the lowest team FP in the window. Seattle is the only club below zero.
What 10 days actually tell you
The Rays earned first place the honest way: they won every game and scored like a track meet when the series asked for it. The Cubs earned second with an 8-1 week and a three-homer night from a third baseman who had spent the first half answering questions. Seattle earned last with an offense that stopped scoring, even while Woo threw zeroes.
Boston's 4-5, third-place FP week is the methodology note. Team fantasy points are not the standings. They are a 10-day production score. Use them with the win column, not instead of it.
Fantasy points measure what a club did. Price is what the market will pay. They move together, but they are not the same number.
