1. Yankees Acquire Max Schuemann from Athletics

New York added versatile infielder Max Schuemann from Oakland in exchange for Minor League right-hander Luis Burgos. Schuemann, 28, can play second, third, short, and all three outfield spots and gives the Yankees another bench option alongside Oswaldo Cabrera and Amed Rosario. 2. Jonah Heim Signs 1-Year Deal with Braves

Veteran catcher Jonah Heim agreed to a one-year contract with Atlanta. He'll back up reigning NL Rookie of the Year Drake Baldwin while Sean Murphy recovers from a right hip labral tear. 3. Zack Wheeler Not Ready for Opening Day

Phillies ace Zack Wheeler is not expected to be ready by Opening Day as he continues rehab from Sept. 23 thoracic outlet decompression surgery. Manager Rob Thomson said the timeline is six to eight months—putting a return between late March and late May. Cristopher Sánchez (NL Cy Young runner-up) is the likely Opening Day starter. 4. Nick Martinez, Rays Agree to 1-Year Deal

Tampa Bay agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract with swingman Nick Martinez, with a mutual option for 2027. Martinez, 35, gives the Rays rotation depth and flexibility; he pitched 142 and 165 innings for the Reds in 2024 and 2025. He'll be the Rays' highest-paid player this year. 5. Chris Paddack Signs with Marlins

Miami reunited with former draft pick Chris Paddack on a one-year, $4 million deal (plus $500K in incentives). Paddack, 30, was drafted by the Marlins in 2015 and traded to the Padres for Fernando Rodney. 9. Yankees to Add Paul Goldschmidt on 1-Year, $4M Deal

New York will add first baseman Paul Goldschmidt once his one-year, $4 million contract is finalized. The move was announced in conjunction with the Schuemann trade; the Yankees designated outfielder Yanquiel Fernández for assignment and will add Goldschmidt in a corresponding move.
