Understanding Dynamic Pricing

Understanding Dynamic Pricing

On AthX, player prices aren't static—they move based on real performance and market activity, just like stocks in the real world. This guide explains how dynamic pricing works and what drives price changes. Sign up today and start trading with dynamic pricing!

What is Dynamic Pricing?

Dynamic pricing means that player share prices change over time based on how well they're actually performing on the field. Unlike fantasy sports where you're stuck with your draft picks, AthX lets you buy and sell as conditions change. When a player performs well, their price tends to rise. When they underperform, their price tends to fall. It's that simple.

What Determines a Player's Price?

Starting Price

Every player starts with a base price determined by their projected fantasy points for the season. Star players with high projections have higher starting prices, while lesser-known players start lower.

Performance-Based Movement

As the season progresses, prices adjust based on actual performance:

  • Outperforming expectations — Price trends upward
  • Underperforming expectations — Price trends downward
  • Meeting expectations — Price stays relatively stable
  • The system tracks each player's current production rate and compares it to their projection. Prices gradually move to reflect reality.

    Market Activity

Beyond performance, buying and selling activity also affects prices:

  • Heavy buying creates upward pressure
  • Heavy selling creates downward pressure
  • This mirrors real stock markets where supply and demand influence prices.

    How Price Changes Work

Price adjustments happen gradually, not instantly. This creates a stable trading environment where all users have a fair opportunity to make informed decisions. Prices adjust smoothly over time based on real performance data.

    IPO Periods

When new players become available on AthX, they go through an IPO (Initial Player Offering) period:

  • Prices are fixed at the base price
  • Everyone has equal opportunity to buy
  • No trading occurs during this window
  • After the IPO ends, normal trading and price movement begins
  • This ensures fair access for all traders when new players enter the marketplace.

    Why Dynamic Pricing Matters

Dynamic pricing creates real trading opportunities: 1. Find undervalued players — Spot performers whose price hasn't caught up yet 2. Avoid overvalued players — Recognize when hype exceeds reality 3. React to changes — Adjust your portfolio as the season unfolds 4. Earn through skill — Good analysis leads to better returns

    Viewing Price Information

On the marketplace, you can see:

  • Current price — What the player is trading at now
  • Price history — How the price has changed over time
  • Price charts — Visual representation of price movements
  • Use this information to make informed trading decisions.

    Common Questions

Why did a price change when the player didn't play?

Prices can move due to market activity (other traders buying or selling) even on off days. Performance updates happen after games, but market activity affects prices continuously.

    How often do prices update?

Prices update continuously based on market activity. Performance-based adjustments happen regularly throughout the season.

What happens if a player gets injured?

Players on long-term injury lists may be removed from active trading. Players with shorter injuries remain tradeable, though their expected production—and therefore price—may be affected.
