Chris Paddack Agrees to 1-Year Contract with Marlins

The Miami Marlins are reuniting with a former Draft pick, having agreed to a one-year deal with veteran right-hander Chris Paddack, sources told MLB.com. The deal is worth $4 million with an additional $500,000 in incentives, per MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The club has not confirmed the deal.

Paddack's Background

Paddack was selected by the Marlins in the eighth round of the 2015 Draft but traded to the Padres a year later for Fernando Rodney. He turned 30 last month and tossed a career-high 158 innings in 2025 with the Twins and Tigers, posting a 5.35 ERA and 112 strikeouts. He still doesn't walk many (career 5.2% walk rate) and generates chase out of the zone (30.4%); his strikeout rate dipped to 16.7% in 2025 after never previously falling below 20%.

Why the Marlins Did It

After trading Edward Cabrera and Ryan Weathers earlier this offseason, the Marlins needed rotation insurance. Paddack adds a reliable back-end starter; Miami used 15 different starting pitchers in 2025. Forty-man options at camp include Sandy Alcantara, Eury Pérez, Max Meyer, Braxton Garrett, and others, with top prospects Thomas White (No. 17) and Robby Snelling (No. 39) as non-roster invitees.
