Three sweeps. One extra-inning tiebreaker. Four games, not six.
September 30, 2026 was Wild Card Game 2. The New York Yankees scored 9 again and sent Boston home. The Chicago White Sox scored 7 in Houston and won a postseason series for the first time since 2005. The San Diego Padres finished the Cubs on a pinch-hit homer. The Philadelphia Phillies were six outs from winter, then hit three homers and forced Game 3.
That is the board: New York first at 19 team FP, Chicago second at 14, San Diego third at 10, Philadelphia fourth at 8. Max Fried and Tyler Mahle sat first among pitchers at 20. Chase Meidroth sat first among hitters at 10.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | New York Yankees | 19 | 9-2 | Yankees vs Red Sox |
| 2 | Chicago White Sox | 14 | 7-3 | White Sox vs Astros |
| 3 | San Diego Padres | 10 | 4-1 | Padres vs Cubs |
| 4 | Philadelphia Phillies | 8 | 4-3 (10) | Phillies vs Braves |
| 5 | Atlanta Braves | 1 | 3-4 (10) | Mahle's 7 innings, then Lee's eighth (ESPN) |
| 6 | Houston Astros | -2 | 3-7 | Swept at home (ESPN) |
| 7 | Chicago Cubs | -3 | 1-4 | One run in 18 innings this series (ESPN) |
| 8 | Boston Red Sox | -6 | 2-9 | Swept in the Bronx (ESPN) |
New York sits first because a 9-2 fills a team table the way Tuesday's 9-0 did. Chicago is second on a 7-3 that started 4-0 in the first inning. San Diego is third on a 4-1 that never trailed. Philadelphia is fourth on a 4-3 that needed the 10th. The other four clubs are the losing sides of the same four games. There was no fifth game to recap.

Fried sat first on the win and the sweep. Mahle sat second on seven innings without a decision. Painter sat third on three scoreless innings in his first postseason game. Morejon sat fourth on a hold. Sánchez sat fifth after the seventh that Harper later undid. The ranking is the pitcher board on a four-game card. It is not every arm who threw.

| 10 | Trent Grisham | OF | Yankees | 6 | 2-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB |
Meidroth took the hitter board on a three-run homer that finished a sweep. Contreras sat second in a loss because a homer and two walks still fill a line. Bellinger sat third on the three-run shot Boston walked Rice to create. Bohm sat fourth on the homer that won the 10th. Harper sat fifth. Kyle Schwarber tied the Atlanta game and did not make this table. Three strikeouts will do that. Pitchers were kept off this table. The hitter board is for bats.
Four featured games from Wednesday
What stood out
The team board belonged to the clubs that scored. New York sat first. Chicago sat second. A 4-3 in extras is a better baseball story than a 7-3 on the road. It is not a better team table. Atlanta still had the best starting line on the card, and Mahle still lost.
The pitcher board belonged to two quality starts at 20 FP. Fried got the win. Mahle did not. Painter's three innings sat third because zeros in October travel. Hunter Brown did not survive the first inning and sat at the bottom.
The hitter board belonged to Meidroth's swing and to a Red Sox first baseman who ended a 26-inning postseason drought and still went home. Harper's homer was the at-bat of the afternoon. It was not the biggest AthX Engine night among bats. That is the version of Wednesday the recaps followed: every Wild Card Game 2, no invented sixth game.
What now?
Wednesday's AthX Engine scores are a record of Game 2. Three clubs moved on. Philadelphia and Atlanta play one more. Use the board to compare nights, then check roles and news before you treat any number as more than production.
