Tigers 8, Cubs 6: Dingler's Two Homers and a Three-Run 10th

July 20, 2026 – Chicago – Every run through nine came on a homer. The 10th belonged to small ball and a Cubs miscue.

Dillon Dingler went 4-for-5 with two solo shots and the go-ahead infield single in extras. Spencer Torkelson ripped a two-run single in the same inning. Riley Greene opened the scoring with a three-run blast. And the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago Cubs 8-6 in 10, per MLB.com and the Associated Press.

Detroit improved to 12-4 in its last 16. The Skubal question got a little louder.

First-inning fireworks, eighth-inning trade

Greene took Jameson Taillon deep. Dingler followed for his 20th. 4-0 before Wrigley settled. Homers traded the rest of the night. Dingler's eighth-inning solo (No. 21) made it 5-3. Ian Happ tied it off Kyle Finnegan in the eighth.

Kenley Jansen (2-4) faced bases loaded and a 3-0 count to Alex Bregman with the PitchCom drowned by the crowd. He got the strikeout. Momentum flipped. Tyler Holton finished for his first save.

The 10th

Dingler singled home Hao-Yu Lee for 6-5. Nico Hoerner's error loaded the bases. Torkelson's two-run single up the middle made it 8-5. Chicago scratched one more. Not enough.
