Monday's best team night was a first-inning grand slam and a shutout. Monday's best pitching night was a man throwing seven innings of one-hit ball against the club that just traded him.
Nolan Arenado ruined Colorado before the Arizona Diamondbacks recorded three outs. Dean Kremer spent seven innings reminding Baltimore what it gave up. Those two facts sit at the top of the AthX Engine boards. The rest of the slate was rallies: eight runs in one inning in West Sacramento, extras in San Francisco, a steal and a single that saved Tarik Skubal's home debut.

Arizona's 21 was the only shutout on the board and the only team score that cleared 20. Three clubs tied at 10, and only one of those (Los Angeles) needed a seventh-inning steal to get there.

Kremer's 28 sat in a different zip code. Detmers threw six innings of one-run ball and still took a no-decision in a 10-inning loss. Lopez threw seven good innings and watched the Athletics' bullpen turn a four-run lead into an eight-run Tampa Bay eighth. AthX Engine ranks the line, not only the decision.

Martin's four hits led every bat on the slate. Arenado's slam against his old club was the cleanest swing of the night. Baty's first career grand slam was the loudest, and it still sat a point behind Lindor's 3-for-5. Caminero's three-run shot started an eight-run inning and only bought him 10th.

What stood out
Monday rewarded the cleanest pitching line and the loudest first inning, then spent the rest of the night on rallies. Kremer and Arenado sat alone at the top of their boards. The next tier was clubs that had to come from behind: Tampa Bay down 6-2, Houston down to its last strike, Los Angeles down after five of Skubal's home debut.
The team board still liked blowouts more than grinders. Arizona's shutout was worth 21. Toronto's 2-1 win over Boston, the night the Red Sox lost a third straight after that 27-of-30 heater, was worth 6. Same slate. Very different ways to take a W.
