AthX Engine NFL Running Backs Projections 2026: Top 40

Running back value still starts with touches. AthX Engine just refuses to ignore the ones that come through the air.

Under our card, backs get Half-PPR (0.5 per reception), full rush and receiving yard rates, and 6-point touchdowns. That lifts pass-catching lead backs and knocks pure goal-line specialists who never leave the field on third down. Training camp will still decide a dozen committees; the board below is who AthX Engine expects to score if roles hold.

Top 40 RBs (AthX Engine projected FP)

Gibbs clear. Everyone else is closer than the internet thinks.

Jahmyr Gibbs at 567 is the only back who looks like a different tier. Detroit's offense still manufactures explosives, and Gibbs is the one who touches the ball in space. The gap down to James Cook at 475 is real. After that, ranks 3 through 8 live in a tighter band: Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, Kyren Williams, Bijan Robinson, Jonathan Taylor, and Derrick Henry.

McCaffrey's rank assumes health. That is the only honest way to write it. When he plays, he is still a top-three AthX Engine back. When he does not, the board reshuffles without a press conference.

Committees and camp noise

Atlanta enters camp with Bijan as the clear lead after a career-best scrimmage-yard season, per the Falcons' own camp preview series. That matches our 6th-place projection. Elsewhere the picture is messier. New England stacks Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. Denver pairs J.K. Dobbins with RJ Harvey. The Giants have Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. both inside the top 40.

Ashton Jeanty at 17th is the rookie spike. Las Vegas is giving a high draft pick real early-down work. That is how you project production before a snap is played: role plus offense, not highlight reels alone.

Kenneth Walker III in Kansas City at 10th is a reminder that landing spots move backs as much as talent does. Same skill set, new offense, new projection.
