Opening Night 2026: Yankees–Giants on Netflix (Tonight)

Wednesday, March 25, 2026 is MLB Opening Night. The New York Yankees play at the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. First pitch is 8:05 p.m. ET. Netflix has a pregame show at 7 p.m. ET (MLB.com).

This is the first regular-season MLB game shown live on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada. Later in 2026, Netflix is also set to carry the Home Run Derby and the Field of Dreams Game. The league says Netflix can show more Opening Night games in 2027 and 2028 as well.

Why this game matters beyond the standings

Opening Night is one big game before everyone else plays on Thursday. The Giants are home; the Yankees bring a national audience. Fans will watch on Netflix first, not a regional sports channel, so some people will need to find the app instead of flipping to a TV channel they already know.

This game is also the first regular-season MLB game to use the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) Challenge System (MLB on ABS). MLB tried the system in the minors starting in 2022 and in spring training before using it in a game that counts. Want a simple breakdown? Read our ABS challenge system explainer.

Starting pitchers (from MLB's Opening Night preview)

Yankees — Max Fried (left-handed). Fried gets the ball for New York. He has started three Opening Days before (2021, 2022, 2023). Last season he went 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA in 32 starts. He threw 195⅓ innings, struck out 189 batters, and set career highs in wins, starts, innings, and strikeouts. He was an American League All-Star in 2025.

Giants — Logan Webb (right-handed). Webb starts for San Francisco. This is his fifth straight Opening Day start for the Giants (2022 through 2025). Last year he went 15-11 with a 3.22 ERA in 34 starts. He threw 207 innings (most in the majors), struck out 224 batters (most in the NL), and finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting.

Lineups (projected for now)

The league preview lists projected lineups. Aaron Judge is in right for the Yankees. Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman, and Willy Adames are on the left side of the infield for the Giants. Scratches happen—check the official site on game day for the final order.

Injuries (short version)

Yankees: Shortstop Anthony Volpe is still rehabbing left shoulder surgery and is not expected back until May. Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, and Clarke Schmidt are also rehabbing.

Giants: Harrison Bader is day to day with left hamstring tightness; the club hopes he can go. Several Giants relievers may open on the injured list, per the league preview.

Bullpen snapshot

David Bednar is the Yankees' closer after a late July trade. Camilo Doval is one of the setup arms; he used to close games for the Giants. On the Giants side, Ryan Walker could move back into the closer role after a strong spring. Jobs can change in the first week of the season.

Who's on the Netflix broadcast

Matt Vasgersian calls the play-by-play. CC Sabathia and Hunter Pence join him in the booth. Lauren Shehadi reports from the field. Elle Duncan hosts studio coverage. Barry Bonds, Albert Pujols, and Anthony Rizzo are among the studio analysts. More names and details are in MLB's Opening Night story.

AthX angle

One game does not make a season. But a big TV night can put more eyes on star players for a short time. On AthX, prices still follow real games over time: innings, plate appearances, and results feed dynamic pricing. For live updates on starters, use our Opening Day pitching matchups page.
