The lead
July 13, 2026 - Philadelphia - Jordan Walker became the St. Louis Cardinals' first Home Run Derby champion, stunning a Citizens Bank Park crowd primed for Kyle Schwarber by winning the final 12-11. Trailing by three with one swing left, Walker needed four consecutive homers in the bonus and delivered—finishing with six straight to close the night, per MLB.com and ESPN.
Walker earned a $1 million prize—more than his $799,400 2026 salary—and leaves Philadelphia as one of the youngest Derby champions in the event's history.
How the final turned
Schwarber, MLB's midseason home run leader with 32, set a brutal bar for the hometown faithful: 11 homers in the final, opening with a 109 mph, 444-foot blast and stacking six in his first eight swings. Longest of the round: 445 feet.
Walker answered with 12. Three behind with one swing remaining, he went into the bonus needing four in a row—and hit them. His decisive blast traveled 407 feet to left. Across the final, Walker's average home run distance was 429 feet, with a top exit velo of 113 mph.
The Philly crowd rose expecting Schwarber's first Derby title on his third try. Walker quietly blacked out those expectations as the last ball cleared the stands.
Round-by-round results

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semifinal | Kyle Schwarber | 9 | Willson Contreras, Red Sox | 8 |
| Semifinal | Jordan Walker | 6 | Junior Caminero, Rays | 5 |
Contreras nearly forced a tie with Schwarber before popping out on his last swing. Caminero still produced the night's longest homer—a 491-foot moonshot in the semis, one foot past Contreras' Round 1 490-footer.
Round 1
| Player | Homers | Longest | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jordan Walker, Cardinals | 13 | 470 ft | Advanced |
| Willson Contreras, Red Sox | 13 | 490 ft | Advanced |
| Junior Caminero, Rays | 12 | 487 ft | Advanced |
| Kyle Schwarber, Phillies | 10 | 461 ft | Advanced |
| Munetaka Murakami, White Sox | 9 | 466 ft | Eliminated |
| Bryce Harper, Phillies | 8 | 482 ft | Eliminated |
| Jac Caglianone, Royals | 8 | 477 ft | Eliminated |
| Ben Rice, Yankees | 7 | 443 ft | Eliminated |
Harper immediately followed Schwarber and needed 10 to tie—he stopped at 8. Murakami, the second Japanese-born Derby participant after Shohei Ohtani in 2021, crushed nine after a slow start. Rice, pitched to by his father Dan, heated up late but could not catch Caglianone on the final bonus swing.
Format note
This year's T-Mobile Home Run Derby used 20 untimed swings in Round 1, then 15 in the semis and final. Rounds could not end on a home run—bonus swings continued until a miss—which is exactly how Walker survived the final.
AthX Engine angle
Home Run Derby nights do not rewrite AthX Engine daily scoring the way a regular-season box score does. Schwarber entered the break as the major league leader in home runs; Walker entered as a breakout All-Star with Derby-level raw power. Neither result is the same as share-price movement—markets still hinge on trader demand over dynamic pricing—but both names sit at the center of Philadelphia's All-Star Week story.

What comes next
The 96th MLB All-Star Game followed Tuesday night at the same Citizens Bank Park. Walker showed up to Philadelphia as a first-time All-Star and Derby champ in the same weekend—an AthX board story still measuring second-half availability and production, not Derby trophies alone.
