Mets 4, Marlins 2: Robert's Eighth-Inning Single Finishes the Rally

Robert waited until the eighth. Then he ended it

July 30, 2026, Citi Field, New York: Bo Bichette and Carson Benge stood on base in the eighth. Luis Robert Jr. punched a ground single to left. Both runners scored. Citi Field finally had the lead it had been building toward all night.

Miami had led twice. New York answered both times. Robert's single made sure the Marlins did not get a third chance.

The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 4-2. Brooks Raley earned the win. Michael Petersen took the loss. Devin Williams closed it.

Pérez deserved better than the bullpen's eighth

Eury Pérez threw six strong innings. He allowed three hits, two walks, and one earned run. He struck out six on 97 pitches.

Kyle Stowers gave Miami a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the fourth. Jakob Marsee made it 2-2 in the seventh with a solo shot to right-center after New York had already tied the game in the sixth.

Lake Bachar threw a clean seventh. Petersen then entered the eighth and could not finish it. Bichette and Benge reached. Robert singled them both home. John King escaped the rest of the inning, but the damage was already 4-2.

Pérez left with a chance to win. The bullpen handed New York the night.

McLean kept New York close until the lineup caught up

Nolan McLean worked 6 1/3 innings. He allowed six hits, two walks, and two earned runs. He struck out six on 99 pitches.

Stowers and Marsee were the only Miami runs against him. Liam Hicks, Xavier Edwards, and Graham Pauley collected hits and never scored. McLean left after the seventh with the game tied 2-2.

Raley then threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings and earned the win after Robert's single. Williams walked one in the ninth, struck out two, and finished the save.

The Mets' pitching was never dominant. It was durable enough to wait for one clean rally.

Lindor started the climb. Robert finished it

Francisco Lindor singled home Francisco Alvarez in the sixth. Robert then reached on a fielding error by third baseman Pauley, and Lindor scored for a 2-1 lead. Marsee's homer tied it again in the seventh. Robert's eighth-inning single broke the deadlock for good.

Bichette finished 2-for-4 and scored once. Benge scored once. Marcus Semien had a hit. Alvarez scored the first New York run.

Stowers and Marsee each homered. Hicks and Pauley each had two hits. Miami finished with six hits and two runs. New York finished with six hits and four runs. The difference was the eighth.
