Guardians 8, Angels 6: Ramirez's Third Double Wins It in the 10th

Down five after two, then Ramirez kept doubling

August 25, 2026 – Anaheim – Gavin Williams lasted 1 1/3 innings. Six hits, five runs, three strikeouts. The Los Angeles Angels led 5-0 and Angel Stadium thought it had a Tuesday night.

It did not. Jose Ramirez doubled in the fourth, doubled in the eighth, and doubled in the 10th. The last one scored two. The Cleveland Guardians won 8-6 in 10 innings.

Steven Kwan went 5-for-5 with a walk, three runs, and an RBI. He was on base for all three Ramirez doubles that mattered. Williams's start was a disaster. The lineup treated it as a delay.

Grissom twice, then Cleveland chipped until extras

Vaughn Grissom homered in the first, his eighth, scoring Mike Trout. Christian Moore homered in the second, his first of the year. Denzer Guzman doubled home a run. Zach Neto singled home another. 5-0 after two.

Walbert Urena started for the Angels and lasted 3 2/3 innings with three runs and five walks. Cleveland finally got to him in the fourth. Travis Bazzana doubled home a run. Ramirez doubled home Kwan and Bazzana. 5-3.

The fifth tied it at 5 on singles from Brayan Rocchio and Kwan. Grissom homered again in the bottom of the fifth, his ninth, and Los Angeles led 6-5. Ramirez's eighth-inning double scored Kwan and tied it. Ben Joyce survived the ninth. Blake Weiman did not survive the 10th.

Rocchio stood on second as the automatic runner. Kwan was already on. Ramirez doubled to center. Two runs. 8-6. Erik Sabrowski had struck out the side in the ninth for the win. Cade Smith struck out two in a clean 10th for the save.

Ramirez finished 3-for-6 with three doubles, five RBI, and two strikeouts. He did not score. He just drove in the game. Kwan never made an out until it no longer mattered. Williams's 1 1/3 innings still sit on the card. Cleveland's bullpen (Matt Festa, Craig Yoho, Logan Allen, Colin Holderman, Sabrowski, Smith) covered the other 8 2/3.

AthX Engine put Cleveland at 13 team fantasy points. Ramirez's 11 hitting fantasy points and Kwan's 10 were the bats that turned a 5-0 hole into a road win. Williams's pitching line is the other half of the same night. The club won. The starter did not.

What's next

Joey Cantillo starts for Cleveland on Wednesday. Grayson Rodriguez starts for the Angels. A 10-inning game after a 1 1/3-inning start is a bullpen tax. Cleveland paid it and left with the W anyway.
