Six runs in the first, then deGrom was done

August 25, 2026 – Chicago – Jacob deGrom did not get a soft landing at Rate Field.

Sam Antonacci scored on a Miguel Vargas single and a throwing error. Munetaka Murakami scored. Tristan Peters doubled in two. Brenton Doyle singled in two more. After one inning the Chicago White Sox led the Texas Rangers 6-0.

Texas climbed back to 11-7. It never caught the first inning. Chicago finished with 14 hits. deGrom was gone after 3 2/3 innings, eight runs, six hits, and five walks.

Peters kept cashing, Texas kept answering too late

Peters went 3-for-3 with a double, a homer, two walks, three RBI, and two runs. He had the two-run double in the first and the solo homer in the sixth that made it 11-7. That homer was the last run of the night. It also was the one that made Texas's sixth-inning rally feel one swing short.

The Rangers did not roll over. Jake Burger homered in the second. Danny Jansen hit a two-run shot in the fifth. Justin Foscue hit a two-run homer in the sixth after Jansen doubled. In a vacuum that is a loud Texas middle. Behind 8-1, it was a chase.

Chicago added two in the fourth on singles from Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth. Antonacci tripled home a run in the fifth and scored on Vargas's second RBI single. The White Sox kept finding the next hit. Texas kept needing the next homer.

Anthony Kay started for Chicago and lasted 4 2/3 innings with four runs. He did not need to be pretty after a six-run first. Jordan Hicks allowed three in the sixth and turned a blowout into a game. Bryan Hudson got the win with 1 1/3 scoreless. Hagen Smith walked three in the eighth and still escaped. Grant Taylor recorded the last out.

deGrom's line is the one that travels: 3 2/3 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 5 BB, 2 K. Five walks with eight runs is not a homer binge he can shrug off. Chicago made him throw, then made him pay.

AthX Engine liked the first inning more than the final

AthX Engine scored Chicago at 18 team fantasy points. Peters's 14 hitting fantasy points landed in a three-way tie near the top of Tuesday's hitter board. Texas still scored seven and got 11 hits. The Rangers just spent the night climbing a wall they built in the first inning.

What's next

MacKenzie Gore starts for Texas on Wednesday. Sean Burke starts for Chicago. A 11-7 home win does not hide that Chicago's bullpen had to finish a game the lineup already won. deGrom's next start is the one Rangers fans will watch with a shorter leash.
