Eight in a row, seven at home, and an 11-run afternoon
August 23, 2026 - Kansas City - Nick Loftin cleared the left-center wall with a three-run shot. John Rave later went to right with a two-run blast. That is the shape of a sweep that stopped feeling close.
Kyle Isbel drove in three. The Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 11-7, completed a three-game sweep, and stretched their winning streak to eight, their longest since May 2024.
Kansas City also finished a seven-game home winning streak, only the fourth undefeated homestand of seven or more games in franchise history. Jac Caglianone sat with ankle soreness. The lineup did not wait for him.
Isbel started it. Loftin made it loud.
Isbel singled home the first two runs. Loftin followed with the three-run homer. 5-1. That early cushion mattered because Detroit kept answering.
Kevin McGonigle doubled in a run and later tied it with a home run. Gleyber Torres and Max Clark pushed runs across with groundouts. Hao-Yu Lee singled one home. Ben Malgeri walked with the bases loaded in the seventh. The Tigers scored seven. They never led after the middle innings stopped being a fight.
Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez doubled in runs in the fifth. Rave's two-run shot pushed Kansas City to 9-5. Isbel and Loftin added RBI singles in the eighth for the final margin. Twelve hits. Eleven runs. Sweep sealed.
Lynch bridged, Schreiber got the W
Daniel Lynch IV worked 4 1/3 and allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. John Schreiber (1-3) threw two-thirds of an inning in the fifth and earned his first win of the season. Steven Cruz closed a hitless ninth.
Andrew Sears (0-1) made his MLB debut for Detroit and lasted four innings, five runs, six hits. Debut nights against a club riding eight straight wins are a hard assignment. Kansas City did not soften it.
