The lead
May 29, 2026 - Denver - Ezequiel Tovar homered in the eighth and walked off in the ninth with a two-run shot, Hunter Goodman tied it with a three-run homer, and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants 8-6 to end a five-game skid, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.
Tovar drove in four runs and scored Colorado's first run on a delayed steal. The Rockies trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the ninth.
How the game turned
San Francisco built a 4-1 lead on sacrifice flies and an RBI single, then added two in the eighth on Rafael Devers' RBI triple and Matt Chapman's single. Tovar's 441-foot homer off Keaton Winn in the bottom of the eighth cut it to 4-3.
Jake McCarthy and Tyler Freeman singled to open the ninth against Caleb Kilian (1-3). Goodman launched a 2-2 slider for his 13th homer to tie it 6-6. After Willi Castro singled, Tovar lined his second homer of the night to left for the first Rockies walk-off of 2026.
Pitching and matchup notes
Juan Mejia (1-4) won despite allowing two runs in the top of the ninth. Kilian gave up five runs in the frame. The Giants were 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position, per Purple Row.
AthX Engine graded Colorado at 13 team FP with Tovar at 17 hitting FP and Goodman at 10 hitting FP.
Bats that changed the board
Edouard Julien snapped an 0-for-34 skid with an RBI single in the second. Tovar's delayed steal scored the Rockies' first run. San Francisco left 11 runners on base in a game that felt closer than the final line.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
17 hitting FP from Tovar on two homers powered 13 team FP—a reminder that AthX Engine can crown a single bat on a short slate even when the bullpen wobbled. Daily scoring remains separate from dynamic pricing.
What comes next
Ryan Feltner faces Adrian Houser on Saturday, per AP.
