The lead
April 29, 2026 - Cincinnati - The Colorado Rockies gave AthX Engine its second-biggest team score of the night, beating the Cincinnati Reds 13-2 behind two home runs from Hunter Goodman, a first-inning bases-clearing double from Brett Sullivan, and 5 1/3 scoreless innings from Tomoyuki Sugano.
Colorado out-hit Cincinnati 15-10 and turned the game into a rout in waves. The Rockies scored three in the first, one in the third, one in the fifth, three in the seventh, and five in the ninth. Goodman finished 3-for-4 with two homers, three RBI, and four runs. Sullivan also had three hits and three RBI, and Willi Castro, Brenton Doyle, and TJ Rumfield each had multi-hit games.
How the game turned
The first inning told Cincinnati where the night was headed. Doyle doubled with one out. Goodman and Castro drew two-out walks to load the bases. Sullivan then drove a bases-clearing double to right, giving Colorado a 3-0 lead before the Reds had a chance to hit.
That sequence mattered because Great American Ball Park can make early leads feel fragile. Colorado kept adding. Castro doubled home Doyle in the third. Goodman hit a solo homer in the fifth. In the seventh, Rumfield doubled in front of Goodman, and Goodman turned on a fastball for a 415-foot two-run shot to left. Kyle Karros added a sacrifice fly later in the inning, and suddenly the Rockies led 8-0.
The ninth inning made the score look even heavier. Cincinnati used catcher Jose Trevino on the mound to save bullpen arms, and Colorado scored five more runs. Ezequiel Tovar singled in two, Mickey Moniak hit a ground-rule double, Jordan Beck brought in a run on a groundout, and Doyle singled home the final Colorado run.
Pitching and matchup notes
Sugano did not overpower the Reds, but he kept them off the board. He allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out two across 5 1/3 scoreless innings. That was more than enough on a night when Colorado's offense kept creating fresh distance.
The Reds had chances early. Matt McLain singled in the first and stole second, but he was thrown out at home after Sal Stewart reached on an infield single. That missed chance became more painful as the Rockies kept adding.
Brandon Williamson took the loss for Cincinnati, allowing four runs on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts in three innings. Reds coverage reported that he exited with left shoulder fatigue, and the club expected him to get additional testing. The Reds avoided a shutout in the ninth when Tyler Stephenson doubled and Will Benson hit a two-run homer.
Bats that changed the board
Goodman was the obvious difference. His first homer made it 5-0, and his second pushed the lead to 7-0. Both were clean power swings, and both came before the position-player inning inflated the final score. That matters for evaluating the game honestly: Goodman had already won the night before the ninth got loose.
Sullivan's first-inning double may have been just as important. It turned early walks into immediate damage and forced Cincinnati to chase. Castro's on-base work also kept pressure on the Reds, while Tovar's ninth-inning single helped push Colorado to the No. 2 team fantasy score of the slate.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
Colorado finished second on the Apr. 29 AthX Engine team board with 27 team FP, trailing only Washington. Goodman led all hitters on the slate with 17 AthX Engine hitting FP, giving him the clearest single-player fantasy case from any of the six recap games.
The Rockies' signal is interesting because it combined a true star line from Goodman with full-team volume. Fifteen hits, 13 runs, and five different scoring innings gave AthX Engine a broad team result. Daily fantasy scoring is separate from dynamic pricing, but this is the kind of game that can bring attention back to a lineup that has been easy to overlook.
What comes next
Colorado sends Michael Lorenzen into the series finale, while Cincinnati is expected to counter with Andrew Abbott. The Reds still have the better season record, but this was a reminder that one bad pitching night in Cincinnati can get ugly fast. For the Rockies, Goodman gave the win a face, and the lineup gave the Engine a full-team surge.
