Rays 4, Brewers 3: Williamson Walks Off Game 4 in 12

Pratt went deep. Then the Trop got the last four singles.

October 27, 2026 - St. Petersburg - Cooper Pratt crushed a 2-2 sweeper from Ian Seymour into the left-center seats. The thousands of Milwaukee fans in Tropicana Field made it sound like a walk-off. World Series Game 4 was 3-2 in the 12th. The Milwaukee Brewers were one inning from a sweep.

Seymour got Jake Bauers to pop out with Jackson Chourio on second. Then Joey Ortiz bounced a throw. Then four singles. Then Ben Williamson, born in Fairfax, Va., chopped one through the right side, the MLB recap's "Baltimore chop," and the Tampa Bay Rays had a 4-3 win.

None out when the winning run scored. Milwaukee leads the series 3-1. Tropicana Field, roof closed, 72 degrees. First pitch 8:08 p.m. Attendance 40,514. Four hours, 20 minutes.

Tampa Bay finished with nine hits and four runs. Milwaukee finished with eight hits, two homers, and three runs. That is the file.

Jax lasted four. May lasted three. Neither left with the lead.

Griffin Jax started for Tampa Bay. Chourio swinging. Bauers to Jonny DeLuca. Christian Yelich walked and stole second. William Contreras walked. Brice Turang grounded to Taylor Walls. Nobody scored.

Dustin May started for Milwaukee. Yandy Díaz lined to Chourio. Jonathan Aranda to Bauers. Junior Caminero looking. Clean first.

The second belonged to Tampa Bay. Liam Hicks singled to Garrett Mitchell. DeLuca forced him, Turang to Pratt. Chandler Simpson lined a double to Sal Frelick. DeLuca scored. 1-0. Ryan Vilade grounded to Turang. Richie Palacios swinging.

Milwaukee evened it in the fourth. Contreras lined to DeLuca. Turang swinging. Frelick singled to Vilade. Pratt doubled to Simpson. 1-1. Mitchell swinging. Jax: four innings, four hits, two earned, two walks, six strikeouts, 74 pitches, 46 strikes. That is not a quality start. Quality start still means six innings and three earned or fewer.

Hamilton missed the tag. Then he tied it.

Caminero singled to open the bottom of the fourth. Hicks moved him to second. May was done. JoJo Romero inherited that runner. DeLuca bounced to David Hamilton. The Brewers challenged the tag. The call stood. Hamilton then threw it away. Caminero scored. 2-1. The MLB recap said Hamilton missed the tag, then threw errantly to first.

Simpson forced DeLuca. Romero picked Simpson off first, Turang covering, caught stealing. Inherited runners scored: one of one. May: three innings, three hits, two earned, three strikeouts, 39 pitches, 30 strikes. Also not a quality start.

Hamilton led off the fifth by homering to right-center off Jax, his second of the postseason. 2-2. Chourio swinging. Bauers to Palacios. Yelich walked. Contreras to Walls.

Kevin Kelly finished the fifth: Yelich already on, Contreras out. Abner Uribe then threw two zeros. Victor Mesa Jr. pinch-hit for Vilade and struck out. Palacios to Turang. Walls looking. In the sixth, Díaz singled and Aranda lined into a double play, Turang to Bauers, the 101.8-mph liner the MLB recap flagged. Caminero to Turang. Uribe: two innings, one hit, no runs, two strikeouts, 19 pitches, 13 strikes.

The middle innings were a bullpen grind

The MLB recap said Tampa Bay president of baseball operations Erik Neander told the club before the game that they needed to win an inning first. They had already won one and lost two. Then they sat on 2-2 from the fifth through the 11th.

Nick Martinez, listed as a Game 5 option before he came out of the pen, threw two scoreless innings. One hit. One strikeout. 33 pitches. DL Hall got through the seventh and most of the eighth. Simpson infield single. Trevor Megill struck out Díaz to finish the eighth.

Bryan Baker threw two zeros. Pratt singled in the ninth. Mitchell flew to Simpson, the leaping catch the MLB recap put at the wall. Tampa Bay challenged Pratt stealing second. Overturned. Hicks to Palacios. Pratt caught stealing.

Andrew Vaughn pinch-hit for Hamilton without batting. Ortiz took third. Aaron Ashby threw 2 1/3 hitless innings, three strikeouts, 31 pitches, 22 strikes. The MLB recap said that extended a record relief run of 18 straight scoreless innings.

Tyler Wells threw 1 2/3 hitless innings. Cam Booser walked Turang and struck out Frelick. Antonio Senzatela walked Díaz, watched Jorge Mateo steal second, and flew Aranda to Frelick.

The 12th, twice

Seymour replaced Booser. Pratt led off and homered, his first of the postseason. 3-2. "That was probably one of the coolest swings of my life," Pratt said in the MLB recap. "But it's over."

Mitchell swinging. Ortiz to Palacios. Chourio doubled to DeLuca. Bauers popped to Walls. Seymour: one inning, two hits, one earned, one strikeout, 32 pitches, 21 strikes. The win put him at 2-0.

"I'm pitching for the season there," Seymour said in the MLB recap.

Luis Lara took center. Caminero grounded to Ortiz. The throw bounced in front of Bauers. Error. Senzatela was done. Shane Drohan inherited that runner.

Hicks singled through the left side. Caminero to third. Cedric Mullins ran for Caminero. DeLuca grounded up the middle. Mullins scored. 3-3. Hicks to second. Nick Fortes ran for Hicks. Simpson lined to Lara. Bases loaded. Williamson pinch-hit for Mesa and bounced one to Frelick. Fortes scored. 4-3.

Drohan: zero innings, four hits, one earned, 15 pitches, 10 strikes. The loss put him at 0-1. Blown save. Inherited runners scored: one of one.

"We weren't knocking balls in the gap or knocking balls out of the ballpark," Rays manager Kevin Cash said in the MLB recap. "We pieced together a big inning, maybe the most important inning of our season."

Williamson, in that recap: "Tonight, good things happened."

Seymour: "We've got one more day. Now let's make it two more days."

What the series looks like now

Pratt finished 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, two RBI, and a caught stealing. Hamilton went 1-for-3 with the tying homer and a throwing error. Chourio went 2-for-6 with the 12th-inning double. Yelich went 0-for-3 with two walks and a steal. Frelick scored the fourth-inning run. Bauers went 0-for-6.

Simpson went 3-for-5 with the RBI double. DeLuca drove in the tying run. Hicks went 2-for-5. Williamson went 1-for-1 with the winner. Díaz went 1-for-4 with a walk.

The MLB recap said Milwaukee's eight-game postseason winning streak ended, one shy of a new record. It also said Tampa Bay was the 44th club to face an 0-3 hole in a best-of-seven and only the 11th to force a Game 5. Sixteen previous World Series walk-offs had come with a team facing elimination, that recap said. Four of those extra-inning wins came in the 12th or later. The only previous club to do it while facing a sweep was the 1910 Cubs.

Yelich, in the MLB recap: "If you want to win a championship, you're supposed to survive some hard things. It's supposed to be hard. It's supposed to test you."

Wednesday, still the Trop

Game 5 is Wednesday night at Tropicana Field. MLB's schedule lists Jacob Misiorowski as Milwaukee's probable. Tampa Bay had already used Martinez for two innings. First pitch is 8 p.m. ET. Milwaukee still needs one. Tampa Bay still needs three.
