Nationals 10, Guardians 2: Mead Homers Twice in Six-Homer Outburst at Progressive Field

The lead

May 25, 2026 - Cleveland - The Washington Nationals matched their season high with six home runs and cruised to a 10-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field, as Curtis Mead went deep twice for his first multi-homer game and Luis García Jr. finished a triple shy of the cycle, per the Associated Press recap on ESPN.

James Wood, Jacob Young, and CJ Abrams also homered as Washington scored seven runs in the first three innings—after averaging 2.3 runs over its previous four games.

How the game turned

Wood led off with a 412-foot homer on the sixth pitch. Mead followed two batters later with a two-run shot off Tanner Bibee before Cleveland recorded an out, and the Nationals led 3-0 before the first out was recorded.

Young opened the second with a solo homer and García added a two-run line drive to right for 6-0. Rhys Hoskins answered with a solo shot in the bottom half, but Abrams homered to start the third for 7-1. Mead's second homer in the fifth made it 8-2, and García's two-run single in the sixth capped the scoring at 10-2.

Pitching and matchup notes

Cade Cavalli (2-3) worked five innings for Washington. Bibee bore the brunt of the early barrage; Angel Martínez doubled home a run for Cleveland's other tally.

AthX Engine graded the Nationals at 21 team FP—tied for the top on the 13-game Memorial Day card—with Mead and García Jr. each at 12 hitting FP. Wood added 9 hitting FP.

Bats that changed the board

Mead finished 2-for-5 with three RBI, homering in three straight games. García went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, and single. The six homers matched Washington's output from a 10-4 win over Cincinnati on May 12.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

Spread power across five different homers is the AthX Engine template for 21 team FP without a single 15 FP bat—Mead and García shared the hitting crown at 12 FP each. Daily scoring remains separate from dynamic pricing.

What comes next

Cavalli faces Guardians lefty Joey Cantillo (4-1) in Tuesday's series finale, per AP probables.
