Dodgers 8, Yankees 2: Yamamoto's First Regular-Season Complete Game

Nine innings, four hits, Bronx quieted

July 19, 2026 – New York – Saturday's rainout stacked a day-night twinbill. Game 1 belonged to one arm.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw a four-hitter for his first regular-season complete game in 66 big-league starts. He struck out seven, walked nobody, and needed 102 pitches (69 strikes). And the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees 8-2, per MLB.com and the Associated Press.

Nine up, nine down to open. Contender baseball in the afternoon sun.

Grisham's solo, then the eighth explosion

Trent Grisham's fourth-inning solo broke the perfect bid. Yamamoto kept dealing. Los Angeles scored two in the third, one in the fifth, then five in the eighth to put it away. Tommy Edman stacked hits and runs. Cam Schlittler (9-6) took the loss in an All-Star matchup that never felt even after the middle innings.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. reached when Andy Pages lost a fly in the sun in the eighth. Anthony Volpe singled him home. Yamamoto finished the job anyway, freezing Jasson Domínguez for a called third strike.

New York won Game 2 2-1 later. The afternoon board still belonged to Yamamoto.

AthX Engine angle

Yamamoto's 30 pitching FP led Sunday. Dodgers 16 team FP on the full DH day. Length like this is why ace shares stay sticky into deadline week even when the club is already an obvious buyer. AthX Engine grades the outing; dynamic pricing grades the market reaction.

What comes next

Los Angeles keeps chasing a three-peat. New York keeps shopping for upgrades with Aaron Judge's return timeline still the background noise. See the deadline update.
