Eight hits from two infielders
July 27, 2026 – St. Louis – Rain delayed the rivalry opener nearly two hours. Then Alex Bregman snapped an 0-for-12 skid like it never happened.
Four hits. A homer. Two doubles. Two RBIs. Three runs scored. Nico Hoerner matched him hit for hit, including a two-run single in the fifth and a two-run homer in the ninth. The Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3, per the Associated Press.
David Peterson (6-7) worked 5 2/3 and earned the win after a rough prior start against this same club. Matthew Liberatore (5-8) took the loss. José Fermín’s solo shot cut Chicago’s early lead to 2-1. Fourteen Cubs hits buried the rest.
Bregman and Hoerner lifted the card
