The trade details

The Brewers and Guardians lined up on a two-for-two swap, sending Perkins and Yoho to Cleveland while Milwaukee received Naylor and Heuer. Jon Heyman of the New York Post first reported the trade and the involvement of Naylor, Heuer, and Yoho. Robert Murray of FanSided reported Perkins' inclusion.

The Brewers assigned both Naylor and Heuer to Triple-A Nashville and made corresponding roster moves to replace both players on the active roster.

Who Milwaukee is getting

Naylor, 26, was Cleveland's first-round pick in 2018 and has appeared in the majors in each of the last five seasons, making more than 100 starts behind the plate in 2024 and 2025. He's been a .199/.279/.372 hitter in the majors and was demoted to the minors in May after Cleveland traded for Giants catcher Patrick Bailey. He has 40 career home runs, 125 RBIs, 47 doubles, and 122 runs scored across 346 major league games. His best season came in 2024, when he hit 13 home runs and drove in 39 runs over 123 games.

Heuer is a low-slot right-hander who has bounced around several organizations.

Who Cleveland is getting

Perkins is a switch-hitter with strong defensive value but has struggled to hit at the major league level. He has hit .223/.307/.330 over 874 career plate appearances, all with Milwaukee from 2023 through 2026, though he owns a .693 OPS against left-handed pitching. He became expendable with outfielder Brandon Lockridge nearing a return from the injured list.

Yoho is a relief prospect who has started to gain traction at the major league level this season. Evaluators are split on the return. Some believe Cleveland won the trade outright by extracting Yoho as the headline piece.

The move looks aimed more at 2027 and beyond than at this season for Milwaukee. Naylor's arrival signals the Brewers may be open to moving current backup catcher Gary Sánchez, positioning Naylor as a developmental project behind starter William Contreras.
