Brewers 6, Dodgers 4: Milwaukee Sweeps Its Way to the World Series

Chourio kept running. The rest of Milwaukee poured onto the mound.

October 15, 2026 - Los Angeles - Jackson Chourio caught the last out a step shy of the left-center warning track. The MLB recap said he smiled and did not stop running. The Milwaukee Brewers had just beaten the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in National League Championship Series Game 4, completed a four-game sweep, and reached the World Series for the first time since 1982.

A year ago Los Angeles swept Milwaukee in this round on the way to a second straight title. Thursday ended the three-peat bid in the same park. Milwaukee had never won a National League pennant. Its only previous World Series trip came as an American League club in 1982, a seven-game loss to St. Louis.

Clear. 90 degrees. Wind 2 mph, calm. First pitch 5:08 p.m. Attendance 49,104. The game lasted 2 hours, 59 minutes. Milwaukee finished with five hits, two homers, and six unanswered runs after it trailed 4-0. Los Angeles finished with eight hits, one homer, 14 men left on, and a 4-0 series it did not expect to play from behind.

Four runs before Milwaukee had a hit that counted

Shane Drohan struck out Shohei Ohtani to open the first, then walked Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman. Will Smith bounced into a 6-4-3. Drohan got out of it. He did not get out of the second.

Kyle Tucker singled to left. Dustin May took over. Teoscar Hernández singled to center. Tucker to third. Max Muncy struck out. Andy Pages chopped a run home. 1-0. Enrique Hernández lined to center.

Ohtani was batting leadoff again, moved there with Los Angeles facing elimination. May threw a 1-1 cutter. The MLB recap said it hung. Ohtani hit it 428 feet to the back of the right-field pavilion, 113.1 mph, his first homer since August 18 and his first of this postseason. Teoscar scored. Pages scored. 4-0.

Dodger Stadium believed it had a Game 5 for Tarik Skubal. Skubal told MLB.com there was no doubt in his mind they would get there, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto lined up for Game 6. Baseball is hard to win, he said. Milwaukee played really well.

Tyler Glasnow had already struck out Jake Bauers and Christian Yelich in a 1-2-3 second. He struck out Cooper Pratt and Sal Frelick in a 1-2-3 third. David Hamilton bunted out. Through three, Milwaukee had no runs and the kind of deficit that ends most LCS nights.

Two ground-rule doubles, then a walk that tied it

Glasnow's fourth started with Chourio popping foul. Brice Turang walked. William Contreras hit a ground-rule double to left. Bauers hit another ground-rule double to right. Turang scored. Contreras scored. 2-4. Yelich grounded Bauers to third. Garrett Mitchell grounded out. Milwaukee had halved it on two balls that bounced into the seats.

The fifth finished Glasnow. Pratt flew to center. Frelick walked and stole second. Hamilton singled through the middle. Frelick scored. 3-4. Glasnow was done: 4 1/3 innings, three hits, four earned, two walks, six strikeouts, 79 pitches. He did not take the loss. The bullpen inherited a one-run lead and did not keep it.

Evan Phillips lined Chourio to center, then issued an intentional walk to Turang. Contreras walked. Bases loaded. Alex Vesia walked Bauers. Hamilton scored. 4-4. Blown save. Yelich grounded to third. The inning ended tied. Milwaukee had come all the way back without a homer.

JoJo Romero then struck out Ohtani looking, grounded Betts, and struck out Freeman. The win would be his, 2-1. Two innings, one hit, three strikeouts, 24 pitches.

Mitchell in the sixth. Hamilton in the ninth. Ashby in between.

Tanner Scott started the sixth. Mitchell led it off and hit a 97.4 mph fastball 409 feet to center, 105.2 mph. 5-4, Brewers. The MLB recap said he pulverized it. Scott struck out Pratt and Hamilton around a Frelick groundout. The loss would be his, 0-1: one inning, one hit, one earned, two strikeouts, one homer.

Romero stranded Tucker at third in the sixth after a double and a groundout. Muncy struck out. Then Aaron Ashby took the last nine outs.

Pages doubled to open the seventh. Enrique Hernández bunted him to third. Ohtani struck out swinging. Betts grounded to short. The tying run stayed at third.

Smith doubled to right in the eighth and took third on a Frelick fielding error. Tucker flew to center. Teoscar struck out. The tying run stayed at third again.

Edwin Díaz had already thrown a 1-2-3 seventh. He threw a 1-2-3 eighth. In the ninth, Pratt grounded out. Frelick grounded out. Hamilton, the No. 9 hitter with four regular-season homers, the Associated Press recap said, got a hanging slider and hit it 402 feet to right-center, 105 mph. 6-4. Chourio struck out. The extra run sat there anyway.

Ashby finished it. Tommy Edman, pinch-hitting, grounded to short. Pages took a called third strike. Enrique Hernández lined to Chourio. Save No. 2. Three innings, two hits, no runs, three strikeouts, 39 pitches.

"We were playing with that chip on our shoulder," Ashby told MLB.com. "We came back this year and those guys played their tails off. I would die for any of these dudes, man."

The MLB recap said the four-run comeback tied the largest to clinch an LCS in MLB history, matching the Yankees in 2000 and 2003. Milwaukee became the first club to begin a postseason with six comeback wins in its first eight games. It also became the first club to get swept by a team one October, then sweep that same club the next.

"At the end of the day, we got beat," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said in that recap. "We got outplayed in all facets. Those guys played flawless. Defensively, they pitched better than we did, they hit better than we did, they slugged more than we did. You've got to sometimes just tip your cap."

Pat Murphy, in the same recap: "You get in the ring and you fight a guy and you lose. You remember it." And later: "For these guys to come back from a 4-0 deficit, I think the Dodgers figured out that we came in here with a little different attitude this year."

A World Series, 44 years later

Milwaukee waits on the American League. Cleveland leads Tampa Bay 2-1 after a 3-2 at Progressive Field on Thursday. The Brewers will host the Fall Classic at American Family Field for the first time since 1982. Los Angeles goes home after 100 regular-season wins and two titles that did not become three.

Bauers drove in three on a night the MLB recap called an NLCS MVP series for him. Hamilton had the single that made it 3-4 and the homer that made it 6-4. Mitchell had the swing that put Milwaukee in front to stay. Ashby had the nine outs that made the party legal.
