Brewers 12, Tigers 4: Milwaukee Blew It Open in the Eighth

April 21, 2026 - Detroit - The Milwaukee Brewers spent seven innings building a workable lead, then turned Comerica Park into a track meet in the eighth. Milwaukee beat the Detroit Tigers 12-4, finishing with 16 hits and a seven-run eighth that buried whatever tension was left.

Brice Turang drove in four runs, including a sacrifice fly during the big inning. Garrett Mitchell tripled home Gary Sánchez to start the avalanche. William Contreras and Jake Bauers added run-scoring hits as Detroit's bullpen could not find a shutdown pitch.

The game was closer than the final for a long time

Sal Frelick and Turang manufactured a 3-0 lead in the second. Riley Greene scored Detroit's first run in the fourth when Javier Báez bounced into a double play, per ESPN's inning summary. Milwaukee nudged the margin to 5-1 in the seventh before the eighth exploded.

Grant Anderson picked up the win in a bullpen game

Grant Anderson worked two hitless innings in relief to earn the decision. Keider Montero allowed three earned over 5.2 as Detroit's starter; Yerry Rodríguez was charged with five runs while recording only two outs in the eighth.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

AthX Engine team scoring loves 12-run, 16-hit nights with a win attached. Turang, Contreras, and Mitchell profile as Milwaukee's top hitter contributors, while the bullpen mix still clears a usable pitching total because the staff held Detroit to four runs.

What it meant

For Milwaukee, this was a reminder that lineup depth still matters when the middle relievers hand you a bridge. For Detroit, the lesson was blunt: one bad inning at home can undo five innings of competitive baseball.
