Brewers 10, Rays 1: Eight With Two Outs in Game 3

Two outs, then eight runs, then a 3-0 lead

October 26, 2026 - St. Petersburg - Junior Caminero threw to second. The umpire called Christian Yelich out. World Series Game 3 was one force away from staying 2-0 in the fifth, Freddy Peralta still on the mound, two outs on the board.

The Milwaukee Brewers challenged. Replay put Yelich on second. Bases loaded. Then Cam Booser inherited that mess, and the inning did not stop.

The Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 at Tropicana Field. Milwaukee leads the series 3-0. Eight of those runs came with two outs in the fifth. None of them came on a home run. Robert Gasser threw six scoreless innings with one hit. Tropicana Field, dome, 70 degrees. First pitch 8:10 p.m. Attendance 40,388. Three hours even.

Milwaukee finished with 16 hits, four doubles, and 10 runs. Tampa Bay finished with three hits, one double, and one run in the ninth. That is the file.

Peralta lasted 4 2/3. The fifth did not.

Peralta had already given Milwaukee a look in the first. Jackson Chourio lined to Jonny DeLuca. Jake Bauers struck out on a foul tip. Yelich singled Chourio to second. William Contreras popped to Taylor Walls on the infield fly. Brice Turang grounded to Walls. Nobody scored.

Garrett Mitchell walked to open the second and got thrown out stealing, Nick Fortes to Walls. The third is where it started. Chourio singled. Bauers walked. Yelich singled to Chandler Simpson. Chourio scored. Contreras lined to Victor Mesa Jr.. Bauers scored. Mesa threw Contreras out at second. 2-0. Turang grounded to Ben Williamson.

The MLB recap said Peralta was facing his old club after the Rays took him in from a rough Mets stop. He lasted 4 2/3: seven hits, five earned, three walks, four strikeouts, 87 pitches, 50 strikes. The loss put him at 2-1. Five innings is not a quality start when you do not get there. Quality start still means six innings and three earned or fewer.

"I was analyzing, like trying to see, and the key for them was that they weren't trying to do too much," Peralta said in the MLB recap. "They weren't trying to hit homers or all that. What I saw tonight is they were just waiting for a good pitch and just tried to hit the ball."

Chourio, a force that wasn't, and Booser in a blender

Hamilton lined to Caminero to start the fifth. Chourio singled to DeLuca. Bauers flew to Simpson. Two outs. Yelich walked, Chourio stealing second on the pitch. Contreras then bounced to Caminero. The first ruling was a force. Milwaukee challenged. Overturned. Chourio to third, Yelich to second, Contreras on first.

Booser had not recorded an out when Turang chopped one that ate up Walls. Two scored. 4-0. Mitchell bounced one to Simpson on a hit-and-run, Contreras scoring. 5-0. Cooper Pratt grounded a double off Caminero's glove, Turang and Mitchell in. 7-0. Sal Frelick doubled to left, Pratt in. 8-0. Booser: zero innings, four hits, four earned, 12 pitches, seven strikes. Inherited runners scored: three of three.

Cole Sulser took the rest of it. David Hamilton singled Frelick home. 9-0. Chourio doubled to Mesa, Hamilton in. 10-0. Bauers flew to Simpson to end it. Chourio already had four hits, one shy of the World Series single-game record, the MLB recap said, and the fifth was not over until the ninth batter of the inning made the third out.

The MLB recap called it the first time a club had scored eight runs with two outs in one World Series inning. Milwaukee did it without a homer. Hitting coach Dan Vogelbach, in that recap: "They just pass the baton over and over again, and they're getting rewarded for it."

"It's definitely deflating," Rays manager Kevin Cash said in the MLB recap. "How could it not be?"

Gasser, one hit, and a sixth that still counted

Gasser had already gotten through the first with traffic. Yandy Díaz singled to Mitchell. Ryan Vilade flew to Frelick. Simpson forced Díaz at second. Contreras threw Simpson out stealing, Turang covering. That was Tampa Bay's last runner until the sixth.

The second, third, fourth, and fifth were clean. Caminero popped to Turang. Williamson grounded to Turang. DeLuca lined to Mitchell. Mesa lined to Mitchell. Fortes grounded to Turang. Walls struck out on a foul tip after Contreras won an ABS challenge. Díaz popped to Bauers. Vilade struck out after another Contreras challenge. Simpson grounded to Turang. Caminero grounded to Hamilton. Williamson looking. DeLuca to Frelick.

Mesa walked to open the sixth. Fortes bounced into a 4-6-3, Turang to Pratt to Bauers. Walls grounded to Turang. Gasser: six innings, one hit, no runs, one walk, three strikeouts, 75 pitches, 50 strikes. The win put him at 1-0. That is a quality start.

"What I learned from those was, I didn't have to do too much," Gasser said in the MLB recap, pointing at starts in San Diego and Los Angeles this October. "I didn't have to press. I didn't need to be more than who I am."

Díaz, through interpreter Kevin Vera in that recap: "He was throwing pitches that we couldn't hit. He was executing really well."

Chourio, on the same night: "I was ready, and I wanted to win today. I knew that us winning this game today, it was a big one and it was going to be a big one for us."

Senzatela, Woodruff, and a run that did not change the math

Garrett Cleavinger threw a clean seventh. Frelick popped to Caminero. Joey Ortiz grounded to Walls. Chourio struck out. Antonio Senzatela then threw two zeros: Díaz to Frelick, Jonathan Aranda popping to Ortiz, Simpson to Bauers, Caminero to Mitchell, Williamson to Frelick, DeLuca swinging. Two innings, no hits, one strikeout, 26 pitches, 20 strikes.

Tyler Wells flew Bauers and Andrew Vaughn to Simpson and struck out Contreras in the eighth. Steven Matz doubled Turang to lead off the ninth, hit Frelick, and still got out of it. Caminero's only error of the night had already come in the sixth, when Contreras singled to third and took second on the throw. Sulser stranded him.

Brandon Woodruff threw the ninth, his first appearance in nearly four months, the MLB recap said. Mesa lined to Frelick. Cedric Mullins chopped one to Ortiz. Jorge Mateo struck out. Díaz doubled to Luis Lara. Mullins scored. 10-1. Aranda grounded to Turang. One run, two hits, one strikeout, 18 pitches.

Chourio finished 4-for-5 with a double, two runs, an RBI, and a steal. Turang went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Contreras went 3-for-5. Yelich went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Frelick went 1-for-4 with a double, a hit-by-pitch, and an RBI. Pratt doubled in two. Hamilton singled in one. Mitchell singled in one. Díaz went 2-for-4 with the ninth-inning double, Tampa Bay's only extra-base hit.

Every Milwaukee starter reached base. Eight of the nine drove in a run. Bauers was the one who did not. He still walked and scored in the third.

Pat Murphy, in the MLB recap, on the Milwaukee crowd that showed up in St. Petersburg: "It was unbelievable, and our players felt it, and they'll tell you about it. It was amazing, the level of support we got tonight."

The MLB recap noted Milwaukee has won eight straight this postseason and is one win from the first World Series title in franchise history. It also noted that the 2004 Red Sox, in the ALCS, are the only club to come back from 0-3 in a best-of-seven postseason series.

Tuesday, still the Trop

Game 4 is Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. MLB's schedule lists Griffin Jax as Tampa Bay's probable. First pitch is 8 p.m. ET. Milwaukee needs one more. Tampa Bay needs four of four.
