Angels 7, Blue Jays 3: Schanuel’s Seventh-Inning Hammer

April 22, 2026 - Anaheim - The Los Angeles Angels spent six innings in a tight, scoreless grind with the Toronto Blue Jays. Then the seventh arrived, Nolan Schanuel ripped a three-run double, and a 3-3 tie turned into a 7-3 Angels win.

Mike Trout and Schanuel had already homered earlier off Eric Lauer. Jo Adell manufactured a run with a sacrifice fly in the third. Toronto tied it in the seventh on a Tyler Heineman groundout and run-scoring hits from Nathan Lukes and Ernie Clement, per the ESPN play log. Zach Neto and Yoán Moncada kept the line moving before Schanuel’s double cleared the bases.

Soriano set the defensive tone

José Soriano threw five scoreless innings with four strikeouts and kept Toronto from building leverage early. Brent Suter earned the win in relief. The bullpen wobbled briefly in the seventh but never let the Blue Jays retake the lead after Schanuel’s swing.

Toronto’s lineup produced traffic, not timing

The Blue Jays finished 12 hits but stranded too many runners, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. took an 0-for in the heart of the order on a night when one more barrel might have flipped the game.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

AthX Engine scoring rewards seven-run home wins with a strong middle-inning surge. Schanuel and Trout profile as Los Angeles’s top hitter lines, while Soriano still posts a strong pitching total despite not earning the decision. Lukes and Clement salvage modest totals for Toronto.

What it meant

For the Angels, this was a classic West Coast win: survive the early innings, then let the middle of the order end the debate. For Toronto, it was a reminder that hit totals without a knockout inning usually travel home as a loss.
