Yankees 9, Astros 3: García Homers and New York Breaks It in the Seventh

Rice tied it in the first. The seventh finished Houston.

August 26, 2026 – New York – Isaac Paredes scored on Jose Altuve's double in the first. Ben Rice answered with his 35th homer. The New York Yankees never trailed again for long, and they beat the Houston Astros 9-3 at Yankee Stadium.

Luis García Jr. went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer in the eighth. Jazz Chisholm Jr. went 3-for-3. Bennett Sousa walked into a mess in the seventh and did not walk out of it.

Four in the seventh, two more in the eighth

George Lombard Jr. grounded home García in the first. 2-1 Yankees. Daulton Varsho homered in the fourth to tie it 2-2. Chisholm scored on a double play in the bottom of the fourth. 3-2.

Houston tied it in the seventh when Christian Walker reached on Lombard's error and Altuve scored. Then Sousa faced the middle of New York's order. Cody Bellinger doubled home Trent Grisham and Rice. Spencer Jones singled home García. Chisholm doubled home Bellinger. 7-3.

García's homer in the eighth, his 28th, scored Rice. 9-3. That is a two-night Bronx series with opposite winners.

Elmer Rodríguez started and went six innings with three runs. Paul Blackburn got the win with a scoreless seventh. Peter Lambert lasted 5 2/3 for Houston. Sousa's one-third of an inning, five hits, and four runs decided the night.
