Eleven strikeouts and a three-run lead in the seventh

September 2, 2026 – Denver – Trevor Rogers set a career high with 11 strikeouts Wednesday at Coors Field, fanned six in a row at one point, and left in the seventh inning with the Baltimore Orioles leading 3-2. The Colorado Rockies tied it in the ninth, took a 5-3 lead back in the 11th, then scored two themselves, and Brett Sullivan looped a single to left in the bottom of the 11th to make it 6-5 and end the night for Baltimore.

Rogers deserved a win. He did not get one. The Orioles are now 1 1/2 games out of the final AL wild-card spot.

Rogers and his 11 strikeouts

Trevor Rogers came to Denver and punched out 11. His previous career high was 10. He fanned six consecutive batters through the fourth and fifth innings at Coors Field, which is not where career strikeout records usually happen. He left with two outs in the seventh and a 3-2 lead.

Luis Robert Jr., picked up on waivers from the Mets on Monday, hit a two-run double in the third for Baltimore's first two runs. Robert was the automatic runner in the 11th and scored on Samuel Basallo's single to open the Orioles' last rally.

How the ninth let it slip

Colorado tied it in the ninth with two outs off Andrew Kittredge. That answered Monday's game, when Colton Cowser reached over the center-field wall to rob Jake McCarthy of a two-run homer with Kittredge on the mound. Kittredge's September at Coors Field has been unkind in both directions.

The 11th, both halves

Baltimore scored twice in the 11th off Blas Castano on Basallo's RBI single and Blaze Alexander's RBI single. Alexander had three hits on the night. With a 5-3 lead and one out, Wolfram struck out Cole Carrigg and Zac Veen. Two outs.

Then Adael Amador hit a ground-rule double to left. Brett Sullivan worked the count to 3-2, then blooped a sinker into shallow left. Amador scored easily. Rockies win.

Blas Castano (2-0) got the win. Grant Wolfram (6-3) took the loss after nearly getting out of it.

What the loss means for Baltimore

The Orioles went 6-3 on their western road trip, including the first two games against Colorado, and still couldn't finish with 7-3 because of what happened Wednesday and Monday. They dropped the final two of this series and have Cleveland, Toronto, and Texas all within 1 1/2 games. Baltimore opens a four-game home series against Boston on Friday.
