Rockies 13, Nationals 1: Norby's Grand Slam Turns a Quiet Night Loud

Chaparro's homer lasted until the fifth

August 26, 2026 – Washington – Andrés Chaparro homered in the second. For three innings after that, Nationals Park still had a 1-0 game.

Then Colorado started stacking extra-base hits, and the Colorado Rockies left with a 13-1 win over the Washington Nationals.

Connor Norby drove in five. Tanner Gordon threw seven innings and allowed that one Chaparro run. Washington used a bullpen night after Matt Waldron lasted two innings, and the bullpen did not hold.

Four in the fifth, a slam in the seventh, five more in the eighth

Troy Johnston's two-run homer in the fifth made it 2-1. Cole Carrigg followed with a two-run shot. 4-1. The quiet part of the night was over.

The seventh was the one that ended the argument. Hunter Goodman, TJ Rumfield, and Willi Castro were on. Norby hit a grand slam to center, his sixth homer of the year. 8-1.

Goodman homered in the eighth, his 36th, scoring Carrigg. Norby singled home another. Ezequiel Tovar singled in two more. Thirteen-one. Colorado finished with homers from Johnston, Carrigg, Norby, and Goodman. Norby went 2-for-4 with five RBI and three runs.

Gordon: seven innings, six hits, one run, zero walks, five strikeouts. Zach Agnos finished two scoreless. Will Dion took the loss after allowing four in the fifth. Luis Perales allowed four more in the seventh. Washington scored once and never scored again.
