Rangers 5, Nationals 0: Quantrill Throws Seven Scoreless

August 18, 2026 - Arlington - Cal Quantrill did not walk a batter. He did not give up a run. He gave up four hits in seven innings, struck out five, and left a 5-0 game for somebody else to finish.

The Texas Rangers beat the Washington Nationals 5-0 at Globe Life Field. Justin Foscue hit a homer and walked in a run. Wyatt Langford scored twice. Corey Seager scored once. Jackson Kent (0-1) lasted 3 2/3 and was charged with all five. That is a shutout built in the first three innings, then parked.

A double-play run, then Foscue

Langford scored the first run the ugly way. Jake Burger bounced into a double play, short to second to first, Langford coming home, Seager out at second. 1-0. You do not put that on a poster. You put it on the board.

Foscue put the second on a poster. Solo homer to left, 400 feet, his eighth. 2-0. The third was the crooked inning. Langford scored again when Brandon Nimmo reached on a fielder's choice. Washington challenged the tag. The call stood. Foscue walked Seager in. Cody Freeman singled Nimmo home. 5-0. Three innings. Five runs. Eleven hits by the end of the night, and Texas never needed another.

Seven innings, zero walks

Quantrill (5-4) threw strikes. Zero walks in seven innings is the sentence. Four hits. Five punchouts. The Nationals put seven hits on the night and none of them became a run. Trevor Williams threw 3 1/3 scoreless after Kent left. Yovanny Cruz threw the eighth. Washington's pitching after the third was fine. The third had already ended it.

Robby Ahlstrom, Jakob Junis, and Tyler Alexander finished the shutout. Ahlstrom put two on in the eighth. Junis struck out the last out of the inning. Alexander threw the ninth. Combined zeroes after Quantrill's seven innings without a walk.

Foscue's night was a homer, a walk, two RBI, a run. Langford scored twice and never needed a highlight swing. Seager reached and scored in the third. Nimmo, now in Texas colors, drove in a run and scored one. This is a 5-0 that looks like a pitching card first and a three-inning burst second.

A shutout on a 22-0 night

Milwaukee scored 22 across the league. Texas scored 5 and still owned the second-best pitching line on the AthX Engine board. That is the other way to win a Tuesday. Quantrill is 5-4. He will not get 47 team fantasy points. He got 26 pitching points and a clean shutout in a park that has seen worse.

I would not sell you this Rangers lineup as fixed after five runs. I would sell you seven innings without a walk as the version of Quantrill that keeps Texas in the wild-card noise. Washington is playing out a season. Kent's first loss of the year came in 3 2/3 that turned into five. Williams' 3 1/3 scoreless is the footnote. Quantrill is the story.

Globe Life will take 5-0 and go home. The Nationals will take seven hits and zero runs and try again. Foscue's 400-foot ball is the swing. Quantrill's zero in the walk column is the night.
