The lead
May 25, 2026 - Baltimore - Colton Cowser hit a 425-foot, two-run walk-off homer in the 13th inning—his second game-winning shot in as many days—and the Baltimore Orioles outlasted the Tampa Bay Rays 9-7 in a 4-hour, 12-minute Memorial Day matinee at Camden Yards, per MLB.com and MASN.
Cowser joined Fred Lynn as the only Orioles to homer walk-off on consecutive days in franchise history, per the Elias Sports Bureau.
How the game turned
The game was tied 2-2 in the ninth and 2-2 in the 10th before extra-inning chaos. Victor Mesa Jr. homered off Tyler Wells to put Tampa Bay ahead 4-2 in the 11th, but Pete Alonso and Jeremiah Jackson singled in runs to tie it.
Jonathan Aranda's sacrifice fly gave the Rays a 5-4 lead in the 12th; Gunnar Henderson's fielder's choice tied it at 5 after replay showed Cowser beat Nick Fortes' tag at the plate. Tampa Bay scored twice in the 13th on Cedric Mullins and Richie Palacios, but Leody Taveras doubled home the free runner and Jackson Holliday tied it with a sacrifice fly.
Cowser ended it with a 425-foot blast off Jesse Scholtens (5-3) to right-center.
Pitching and matchup notes
Dietrich Enns (3-0) earned the win despite allowing two runs in the 13th. Kyle Bradish posted 12 pitching FP in relief. Richie Palacios—playing in Baltimore for the first time as a visitor after 2018-25 with the Orioles—received a standing ovation in the second.
AthX Engine graded Baltimore at 14 team FP with Taveras at 8 hitting FP and Holliday contributing across the extra frames.
Bats that changed the board
Cowser's homer was just his third of the season but his second walk-off in 48 hours—he also ended Sunday's doubleheader opener against Detroit with a three-run shot. The Orioles rallied three times in extra innings and earned their first win over Tampa Bay after being swept last week at Tropicana Field.
AthX Engine fantasy angle
Extra-inning chaos spreads AthX Engine value across pinch-hitters, defensive plays, and relief arms—14 team FP reflects the win without a single 12 FP hitter, though Bradish's 12 pitching FP anchored the bullpen ledger. Daily scoring remains separate from dynamic pricing.
What comes next
Shane Baz (1-5) faces Griffin Jax (1-2) on Tuesday, per AP probables.
