Mariners 8, Rays 2: Crawford Ten Hit FP, Seattle Wins at the Trop

Hancock took a 107 mph comebacker and Seattle still won

July 12, 2026 - St. Petersburg - Emerson Hancock took a 107.2 mph one-hopper off his pitching hand on his first pitch to Yandy Diaz, threw Diaz out anyway, retired Jonathan Aranda on a flyout, struck out Junior Caminero—and still left after a two-out walk in the second.

That's the kind of Sunday that could've unraveled a team on a 1-5 trip with a five-game losing streak hanging over it.

Instead, the Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-2 at Tropicana Field to snap the skid before the break, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.

José A. Ferrer (2-1) needed one pitch to end Hancock's second inning, struck out two in a scoreless third, and four more relievers—including Andrés Muñoz in the ninth—finished it. Seattle (48-49) closed a rough road stretch with something to carry home. Tampa Bay (56-38) still had the AL's best record heading into All-Star Week.

Crawford's two-run double, then a four-run fourth

Seattle took a 3-0 lead in the second against Ian Seymour (6-2). Victor Robles hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly. J.P. Crawford followed with a two-out, two-run double—part of a 3-for-4 day with 10 hitting FP, second-best on the entire Sunday hitting board.

Weston Wilson hit a solo homer in the fourth—his first as a Mariner, second of the season. Seymour left with two outs and two on, and Randy Arozarena greeted Cole Sulser with his 11th homer, a three-run shot that capped a four-run inning and made it 7-0.

The Rays didn't answer until the eighth, when Diaz singled and Jonathan Aranda hit his 14th homer for their only runs.

Buddy Kennedy and Crawford added back-to-back doubles in the ninth off Craig Kimbrel for the final 8-2 margin.

Longoria's day, and a trip that needed this one

Before first pitch, the Rays retired Evan Longoria's No. 3 jersey—one day after inducting him into the franchise's Hall of Fame. Nice ceremony. Seattle still needed the win more.

The Mariners had dropped three straight to Miami to open the road trip. Sunday's offense—nine hits, eight runs, Crawford driving three of them—was the cleanest answer they could've written before the off days.

Tampa Bay begins a three-game series at Boston on Friday. Seattle hosts San Francisco for three.
