Mariners 4, Phillies 1: Kirby Goes 7 2/3 and Raleigh Ties It

Kirby lasted. Nola lasted. Seattle's seventh did not stay 2-1.

August 25, 2026 – Seattle – Aaron Nola threw six innings and left with a 2-1 deficit. George Kirby threw 7 2/3 and left with a 4-1 lead.

That was the game. The Seattle Mariners beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 at T-Mobile Park because Kirby got deeper, Cal Raleigh tied it in the second, and the seventh inning finally added two.

Philadelphia had six hits. Seattle had five. The Mariners just clustered them when Nola was gone.

One run each in the second, then Seattle's two-out push

Bryson Stott scored in the second on Justin Crawford's single. Raleigh answered with a solo homer to right, his 18th. 1-1. For four innings after that, both starters looked like the better version of themselves.

Kirby: 7 2/3 innings, six hits, one run, one walk, nine strikeouts. Nola: six innings, three hits, two runs, three walks, seven strikeouts. Nola's quality start still became a loss. Kirby's length became the daily pitching board.

Josh Naylor singled home Julio Rodriguez in the sixth and was thrown out at second on a tag play Philadelphia challenged. The call stood. 2-1 Seattle. In the seventh, with Nola already out, Dominic Canzone singled home Taylor Ward and J.P. Crawford. 4-1.

Orion Kerkering allowed both seventh-inning runs. José A. Ferrer got the last out of the eighth. Andrés Muñoz walked two in the ninth and still struck out two for the save. He made it louder than it needed to be. He also closed it.

Philadelphia never scored after the second. Trea Turner was in the lineup and did not change the night. Nola did his job for six innings and watched the bullpen hand Kirby a three-run cushion.
