Giants 16, Brewers 3: Susac’s First Two Homers Fuel a Rout

Susac found the seats twice

July 29, 2026, Oracle Park, San Francisco: Daniel Susac had waited 45 major league games for his first home run. He needed only six innings to hit his second.

The rookie catcher drove a changeup from Thomas Pannone 411 feet to center in the second inning, scoring Jung Hoo Lee and Willy Adames. That swing put San Francisco ahead 3-0. Susac later took position player Andrew Vaughn deep in the eighth, a 379-foot solo shot that capped his first multi-homer game.

Susac finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs, and a walk. Heliot Ramos and Luis Arraez each added four hits as the San Francisco Giants beat the Milwaukee Brewers 16-3 at Oracle Park.

The final was emphatic. The route there wasn't. Milwaukee cut a three-run deficit to one and kept the game close through five innings. Then San Francisco sent 11 hitters to the plate in the sixth and turned a tense afternoon into its biggest offensive show of the series.

Webb protected a shrinking lead

Milwaukee answered Susac's first homer without hitting a ball over the fence. Brice Turang brought Caleb Hamilton home on a fielder's choice in the third. Garrett Mitchell's groundout scored Jake Bauers in the fourth. The Brewers had trimmed the lead to 3-2.

Logan Webb kept Milwaukee from taking the lead. He worked six innings, allowed five hits and two earned runs, struck out four, and walked one. San Francisco did not score in the third, fourth, or fifth after Susac's first homer.

Webb left with a 10-2 lead and his sixth win of the season. The outing also extended a sharp personal run against Milwaukee. AP reported that he improved to 6-0 with a 1.92 ERA in nine career starts against the Brewers.

Pannone kept Milwaukee close through three innings after the club called him up from Triple-A Nashville for the start. San Francisco then attacked the Brewers' bullpen. Chad Patrick and Aaron Ashby couldn't finish the sixth before the Giants had scored seven times.

Eleven hitters changed the afternoon

The sixth began with San Francisco ahead by one. A hit batter and two walks helped load the bases, but the inning grew through contact rather than one giant swing.

Christian Koss singled home Adames. Arraez followed with another RBI single. Ramos then punched a two-run single to right, scoring Jairo Rodríguez and Koss. A Milwaukee error on Rafael Devers' fielder's choice let Arraez score, and Lee doubled home Devers and Ramos.

Seven runs had crossed. The Giants led 10-2. Every hitter in the rally forced Milwaukee to make another pitch, cover another base, and record an out that kept moving farther away.

San Francisco kept scoring after Turang's RBI single gave Milwaukee its third run in the seventh. Arraez answered with an RBI single in the bottom half. Bryce Eldridge brought in another run on a fielder's choice, and Lee singled home Eldridge for a 13-3 lead.

Vaughn took the mound for Milwaukee in the eighth. Susac greeted him with the solo homer. Ramos and Drew Cavanaugh added RBI singles, pushing the total to 16. San Francisco scored three in the second, seven in the sixth, three in the seventh, and three in the eighth.

Four-hit days kept the lineup moving

Susac led the scoring, but the Giants didn't reach 17 hits through one bat. Ramos went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, a run, a walk, and a stolen base. Arraez went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, a run, and a steal.

Lee added three RBIs, including the two-run double that closed the seven-run sixth. Koss had two hits and drove in the first run of that inning. Susac, Ramos, Arraez, and Koss all recorded multiple hits.

Milwaukee committed three errors, and San Francisco kept extending innings when given the chance. That matters in a blowout. The Giants didn't wait for another homer to do all the work. They singled through gaps, took walks, ran, and made the Brewers complete every play.

The Brewers entered the day first in the National League Central at 67-40. The Giants entered fourth in the NL West at 45-62. One result doesn't erase that gap. It did give San Francisco two wins in the three-game series after Tuesday's 8-2 loss.

AthX Engine, AthX's projection and scoring system, gave the Giants 32 team fantasy points (FP) and the Brewers -11. Those totals fit a game San Francisco won by 13 runs while collecting 17 hits.

Susac led the featured hitters with 16 hitting FP. Ramos followed with 10, and Arraez earned nine. Webb added 16 pitching FP for six steady innings that kept Milwaukee from tying the game before the offense broke loose.

Fantasy scoring measures what happened on the field that day. Dynamic pricing also reflects market activity and other price inputs, so a player's FP total isn't the same as a share-price move.

San Francisco leaves home with a series win

The Giants now head out for seven games in San Diego and Texas. They leave Oracle Park with a 46-62 record and a young catcher who turned his first career homer into a two-homer afternoon.

Milwaukee leaves at 67-41 and still owns first place in the NL Central. Its larger season remains strong. Wednesday exposed what can happen when a one-run game reaches a bullpen that can't stop the next hitter.

Susac hit one homer to center and another to left-center. Webb completed six innings, and the Giants kept scoring through the eighth.
