Cubs 17, Reds 5: Crow-Armstrong's Three Homers Own Wrigley

Three balls in the seats. Then the ovation.

August 29, 2026 - Chicago - Pete Crow-Armstrong led off with a homer. He hit another in the second. He hit a three-run shot in the seventh. Wrigley Field had 17 runs and his first career three-homer game.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 17-5. Chicago had lost three in a row. This one was not close after the fifth.

Jose Trevino was on the mound in the eighth. Crow-Armstrong grounded to second. The crowd of 39,597 stood anyway.

Abbott never got a clean inning. Gausman did not need one.

Crow-Armstrong's first one traveled 435 feet to right-center, his eighth leadoff homer of the year, all in 2026. Seiya Suzuki reached. Alex Bregman followed with a two-run shot to center, his 20th. 3-0 before Andrew Abbott recorded a second out.

Cincinnati answered. Eugenio Suárez hit a two-run homer in the second, his 20th. Sal Stewart hit a two-run shot in the third, his 30th. JJ Bleday added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. 5-7, and Kevin Gausman had already given five of those back.

The rest of the afternoon belonged to the bottom of Chicago's order. Tyrone Taylor went 4-for-5. Pedro Ramirez reached three times. Carson Kelly hit a three-run homer in the fifth and doubled home another in the eighth. Those three went 8-for-12 and scored nine.

Crow-Armstrong's second homer, a two-run drive to right in the second, made it 6-2. His third, 444 feet to center in the seventh, scored Ramirez and Kelly and made it 13-5. Nico Hoerner singled Suzuki home. Suzuki later homered himself, his 23rd, with Kelly aboard. 17-5.

Abbott lasted three innings, eight hits, seven runs, three homers. Gausman (8-11) went five, six hits, five runs, seven strikeouts, 102 pitches. He still got the win. Colin Rea threw two scoreless to finish it. Trevino, Cincinnati's catcher, pitched the eighth and allowed three more.

AthX Engine scored the three-homer card, not the starter's ERA

AthX Engine put Chicago at 32 team fantasy points, first on a 17-game Saturday. Crow-Armstrong's 23 hitting FP sat alone atop the hitter board. Kelly scored 13, Bregman 12, Suzuki 11. Gausman's five earned did not wreck the team total. Abbott's three innings did not help Cincinnati's.

What's next

Chicago is 7-2 against Cincinnati this year after Friday's 10-8 mess. The Cubs needed a loud afternoon after dropping six of eight. They got one. The Reds are 3-5 on a nine-game trip. Stewart's 30th homer and 104 RBI still lead National League rookies. It did not travel in this box score.
