Chris Sale's 41-point night: what the Engine counted

Drake Baldwin homered in the first. Chris Sale never needed a second run.

Nine innings. Five hits. Zero walks. Eleven strikeouts. The Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 at Truist Park on Aug 27. Sale finished it himself. That is a complete game, and it is the loudest single night in this set of posts.

AthX Engine (our game-log scoring system) counted 41 fantasy points for that start. The number is the night. It is not a window total and it is not a season forecast.

What the Engine actually paid

A complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts and no walks is almost the whole pitching card at once. Length. Zeros. Missed bats. No free passes. Baldwin's 22nd homer made it a win. Sale made it a 41.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw 6 1/3 and allowed the one run. He deserved a cleaner night. Sale still went back out for the ninth. He did not hand a 1-0 lead to a closer. The Engine grades the innings he used, not the save he refused to need.

The full game story is Braves 1, Dodgers 0. This post is the stamp: 41 Engine fantasy points, complete game, Aug 27.

Fantasy points measure the start. Price is what the market will pay for the next one. They are related. They are not the same column.

Why this night sits next to the window posts

The Cubs heater is an Aug 23–Sep 1 Engine window: 128 team points, four bats, a +43 run differential. Daylen Lile's breakout is the same window on one hitter: 66 Engine points, 5 home runs.

Sale is the other shape. One date. One line. 41. If you only read week totals, you miss the night that sat on top of the pitcher board by itself.

Where to go from here

Open Chris Sale on AthX. The Aug 27 line is in the game log. The Engine counted 41 for that night alone. That is not a window total and not a season forecast.
