Cardinals 7, Dodgers 2: Jordan Walker's Triple Caps a Strong Night at Busch

The lead

May 1, 2026 - St. Louis - The St. Louis Cardinals cooled off the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2 at Busch Stadium, winning a fourth straight game and handing Los Angeles its third straight loss for the first time in 2026 in MLB.com's framing.

Jordan Walker produced the loudest swing of the late frames with a two-run triple in the seventh and scored on a force play to stretch a tight game. Nolan Gorman homered after Ivan Herrera scored on a balk in the first. Alec Burleson added a solo homer in the third and a diving play in the ninth sealed the night before Matt Svanson finished it with Shohei Ohtani at the plate in the final highlight clip.

The Washington Post also noted Walker finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored.

How the game turned

St. Louis built an early cushion without waiting on traffic. Gorman's two-run shot turned a quirky balk-aided run into a real inning, and Burleson's homer kept pressure on Emmet Sheehan before Los Angeles could answer.

Max Muncy doubled home a run in the second, and Kyle Tucker lifted a sac fly in the sixth to trim the deficit 4-2, but Walker still had the inning that broke open breathing room. His triple off Edgardo Henriquez changed the inning from "maybe" to "decided," and the force play that brought him home added an extra tally before the ninth.

The Dodgers' late push stopped with Svanson's final outs after Miguel Rojas led off the ninth.

Pitching and matchup notes

Matthew Liberatore earned the early platform with a clean opening act and kept finding leverage as Los Angeles chased runs. George Soriano and other bridge arms appeared in MLB.com's highlight path as the game moved through the middle innings.

Sheehan absorbed the hard contact on Gorman and Burleson, and the Cardinals' pen treated a premium lineup carefully enough that only two Dodgers runs crossed after the early noise.

Bats that changed the board

Walker's night was the headline for both traditional stats and fantasy energy. Gorman and Burleson supplied the power before the seventh, JJ Wetherholt showed up in the opening sequence against Sheehan, and Will Smith took an early punchout from Liberatore in MLB.com's top-of-the-first clip.

The Dodgers still had Ohtani in the on-deck story line for the ninth, which is never a quiet note even when the score is decided.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

The Cardinals tied for third on the May 1 AthX Engine team board with 15 team FP, matching the Yankees' nightly total. Jordan Walker posted 12 AthX Engine hitting FP, while Matthew Liberatore stacked 10.66 AthX Engine pitching FP across his start in daily scoring.

Multi-hit nights with a triple and powered innings often jump both hitter and team fantasy totals on the same card. AthX Engine daily scoring is separate from dynamic pricing.

What comes next

St. Louis exited a tough homestand stretch with momentum while Los Angeles searched for answers after three consecutive losses. AthX traders should keep Walker and Gorman on the short list after another statement series opener.
