Brewers 16, Giants 2: Turang Snaps Slump in Seven-Run Second Inning

The lead

June 1, 2026 - Milwaukee - Brice Turang ended an 0-for-21 slump by reaching base in all four plate appearances, and the Milwaukee Brewers scored seven runs in the second inning on the way to a 16-2 rout of the San Francisco Giants, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.

Milwaukee's 16 runs and 18 hits were season highs. The Brewers walked 11 times without a home run. San Francisco had led 2-0 on Matt Chapman's two-run blast—his first homer since March 31—before the second-inning avalanche.

How the game turned

Six straight Brewers reached against Landen Roupp (5-6) in the second. Sal Frelick doubled home Jake Bauers, Luis Rengifo singled, David Hamilton beat out a bunt, and Roupp walked Christian Yelich to load the bases. Jackson Chourio doubled home two runs, Turang tripled off the center-field wall for two more, and William Contreras added a sacrifice fly for a 7-2 lead.

Yelich and Hamilton each went 3-for-5 with three runs. Chourio finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Milwaukee added insurance in the fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth—including four runs against position player Buddy Kennedy in the eighth.

Pitching and matchup notes

Roupp allowed a career-high eight runs over four innings with five walks. Shane Drohan gave up Chapman's homer over four innings before Chad Patrick (3-2) earned the win with one scoreless frame.

The Brewers have won six of seven; the Giants have lost six of seven after Sunday's 19-run outburst at Coors.

Bats that changed the board

Turang doubled in the first, tripled in the second, and walked twice. Every Milwaukee starter except Contreras reached base—he drove in runs with two sacrifice flies. Rafael Devers and Willy Adames went a combined 0-for-5 for San Francisco.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

AthX Engine graded Milwaukee at 33 team FP, the highest on the nine-game Monday card, with Turang at 11 hitting FP and Chourio at 9 hitting FP. Spread-offense blowouts reward depth in daily scoring; that ledger is separate from dynamic pricing.

What comes next

Kyle Harrison (6-1) faces his former club Tuesday as the series continues at American Family Field, per AP.
