Washington hit three homers. Atlanta still left with the win
July 30, 2026, Truist Park, Atlanta: Daylen Lile went deep in the second. Luis García Jr. went deep in the third. Lile went deep again in the fourth. Washington led 3-0, and Truist Park sounded like a road game.
Then Ronald Acuña Jr. answered. Mike Yastrzemski followed. Ozzie Albies finished the comeback with a two-run single. Atlanta trailed for four innings and led for the last three.
The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 5-4. Victor Mederos earned the win. Jake Irvin took the loss. Raisel Iglesias closed it.
Irvin could not stop the middle of Atlanta's order
Irvin allowed three hits, two walks, and five earned runs. He struck out one on 61 pitches.
Acuña cut the deficit to 3-1 with a solo homer in the fourth. Yastrzemski then drove a two-run shot to right in the fifth, scoring Dominic Smith ahead of him and tying the game 3-3.
The sixth finished the comeback. Irvin walked Drake Baldwin and Acuña to open the inning. Carson Palmquist replaced him and recorded two outs, then Ozzie Albies lined a single to center. Both runners scored. Atlanta led 5-3. The runs were charged to Irvin.
Palmquist and Riley Cornelio kept Atlanta from scoring after that. The Nationals still needed one more run than they got.
Holmes survived long enough for the bullpen to take over
Grant Holmes allowed three earned runs over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two. The early home runs put him behind before Atlanta's lineup woke up.
Danny Young threw a scoreless sixth. Mederos worked the seventh, allowed García's RBI triple that scored James Wood, and still earned the win because Atlanta already led 5-3 when he entered. Dylan Lee then retired the Nationals without allowing a hit. Iglesias walked one in the ninth and still finished the save.
That is how a 3-0 hole becomes a one-run win. The starter survives. The middle of the order answers. The closer ends it.
Lile and García carried Washington. Atlanta carried the last six outs
Lile finished 2-for-4 with two homers, two runs, and two RBIs. García went 3-for-5 with a homer, a triple, two RBIs, and a run. José Tena had two hits. Wood scored once.
Washington still finished one run short. Atlanta's late defense and bullpen did not give García another chance to finish a rally.
Acuña scored twice and drove in one. Yastrzemski drove in two. Albies drove in two. Smith scored once. The Braves did not need 12 hits. They needed the right ones after Lile's second homer.
AthX Engine scored the Nationals' bats and Atlanta's win
AthX Engine, AthX's projection and scoring system, gave Atlanta nine team fantasy points (FP). Lile led all hitters on the slate with 12 hitting FP. García finished third among hitters with 11 FP.
Those marks measure daily performance under AthX Engine rules. Dynamic pricing also accounts for market activity and other price inputs. A 12-FP game can matter without matching a share-price move.
Atlanta holds serve at Truist
The Braves improved to 64-45 and kept the National League East lead intact for another night. Washington fell to 55-55 after leading by three and watching the lead disappear in three innings.
Lile and García deserved a better ending. Acuña, Yastrzemski, and Albies wrote a different one.
