That January date is intentional. It sits after the wild-card weekend window so the board does not liquidate every non-playoff name at the exact second Week 18 ends.
Why team shares are different
Franchise entities are multi-season books. They score on AthX Engine team production (wins/losses and PF/PA context). They are not week-to-week fantasy DEF slots. When the calendar flips, team shares stay on the book and reprice later—same philosophy as MLB franchise holdings.
What this means for IPO week buyers
1. Injury type matters. Short IR is not automatic cash-out. Season-ending IR can be. 2. Playoff path matters. Holding a contender's players into January is a different risk than holding a 4–13 skill guy into January. 3. Teams are the long asset. If you want football exposure that survives force-sell calendars, franchise shares are the designed vehicle.
