Athletics 9, Giants 6: Four-Run Ninth Avoids Sweep at Oracle Park

The lead

June 25, 2026 - San Francisco - Jonah Heim's RBI single tied the game, Lawrence Butler followed with a go-ahead hit, and Max Muncy drove in two more as the Athletics scored four times with two out in the ninth inning and beat the San Francisco Giants 9-6, per the Associated Press recap on CBS Sports.

Oakland topped the June 25 hitting surge with 25 team FP in AthX Engine scoring.

How the game turned

San Francisco built a 6-2 lead through six innings, capped by Jung Hoo Lee's bases-loaded triple when Butler's diving attempt turned a liner into a three-run play. The Giants looked ready to complete a sweep of the Highway 80 Series.

Jeff McNeil singled home a run in the eighth to cut it to 6-5. In the ninth, Henry Bolte opened with an infield single off Caleb Kilian (2-4) and advanced on a wild pitch. Kilian retired the next two batters before walking Tyler Soderstrom on a pitch that survived an ABS challenge.

Heim singled down the left-field line to tie it at 6-6. Butler put Oakland ahead with a single to right, then stole second before Muncy's bloop single scored two more for a 9-6 edge.

Pitching and matchup notes

Geoff Hartlieb worked two scoreless innings for his first major league win since 2020. Kilian took the loss after allowing four runs in the ninth.

The Athletics finished with nine runs and 15 hits. San Francisco managed only five hits despite the early lead.

Bats that changed the board

McNeil went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for 12 hitting FP in AthX Engine scoring. Butler and Muncy combined for the decisive ninth-inning production that pushed Oakland to 25 team FP.

AthX Engine fantasy angle

AthX Engine rewards late-inning rallies when multiple hitters stack clutch singles and stolen bases behind a quality relief bridge. McNeil's multi-hit line and the four-run ninth register near the top of the daily boards, separate from dynamic pricing.

What comes next

The Athletics continue their road trip while the Giants open a homestand against a division rival, per the MLB schedule.
