Pirates 13, Giants 12: An Error Wins It at PNC Park

Webb threw two innings. Pittsburgh scored nine in the third. It still went to the ninth.

September 1, 2026 – Pittsburgh – Logan Webb lasted two innings: nine hits, nine runs, two walks, one strikeout. Paul Skenes lasted 4 2/3 and allowed five. Neither starter owned this night.

The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Francisco Giants 13-12 at PNC Park. Brandon Lowe scored the winning run in the ninth when Rafael Flores Jr. reached on a throwing error by Osleivis Basabe. San Francisco had already tied it with five in the eighth.

Devers's three-run shot, then a nine-run answer

Pittsburgh scored two in the first. Nick Gonzales singled Lowe home. Oneil Cruz singled Bryan Reynolds home.

San Francisco scored five in the second. Christian Koss and Turner Hill singled in runs. Rafael Devers hit a three-run homer to center, his 31st, scoring Koss and Hill. 5-2, Giants.

Then the third. Cruz singled another run in. Jacob Gonzalez walked a run home. Jared Triolo walked another. Henry Davis singled two in. Spencer Horwitz singled two more. Cruz singled two more. Nine runs. 11-5, Pittsburgh. Webb was already out. The next Giant in line did not stop it either.

Cruz finished 4-for-6 with four RBI. Lowe went 4-for-6 with a homer, three runs, and the winning run. Gonzales had three hits. Reynolds scored three times. Hill went 4-for-5. Drew Cavanaugh had three hits. This was contact baseball until the park ran out of outs.

Five in the eighth, then Basabe's throw

Skenes left with five earned in 4 2/3: eight hits, three walks, four strikeouts, Devers's homer. Yohan Ramírez allowed two more. Gregory Soto and Camilo Doval calmed it. Lowe homered in the seventh, his 29th. 12-7, Pittsburgh.

San Francisco scored two in the sixth on a Jonah Cox single and a Jung Hoo Lee groundout. The eighth was the real comeback. Basabe walked a run home. Cavanaugh doubled two in. Nate Furman singled two more, scoring Basabe and Grant McCray. Luke Weaver took the blown save. 12-12.

Carson Seymour came out for the ninth. Lowe singled. Gonzales singled. Cruz forced Gonzales at second, Lowe to third. Flores reached on Basabe's throw. Lowe scored. Unearned. 13-12. Mason Montgomery had thrown a scoreless top of the ninth and got the win.

Cesar Perdomo threw four innings of relief for San Francisco after the Webb mess and allowed one run. That kept the Giants close enough to tie. It did not keep them from losing on an error.

AthX Engine still scored Pittsburgh ahead of San Francisco

AthX Engine put the Pirates at 17 team fantasy points and the Giants at 10. Lowe led the game at 9 hitting fantasy points. Cruz had 8. Devers had 7 in a loss. Webb's two-inning line does not help a pitching board. Skenes's five earned in 4 2/3 does not either.

A 13-12 game is production on both sides. The winner is still the club that scored last.

What's next

Pittsburgh won a game it led 11-5 and 12-7 and still had to steal in the ninth. San Francisco scored 12 on the road and lost. Webb's next start will have to live next to nine runs in two innings. Skenes will have to live next to five.
