August 2, 2026 – Baltimore – The rain never really left Camden Yards. Neither did Philadelphia's bats.
Bryan De La Cruz hit a two-run homer in the third. Bryce Harper went deep in the fifth. By the time the second delay ended the afternoon after 5 1/2 innings, the Philadelphia Phillies led the Baltimore Orioles 8-0.
It was the last game for both clubs before Monday's trade deadline. Philadelphia sits in National League wild-card position. Baltimore fell 2 1/2 games behind the final American League playoff spot.
The delay knocked out both starters
Zack Wheeler and Kyle Bradish both started. Neither finished the story. A 1 hour, 49 minute delay after the top of the third soaked the field and pulled both arms.
Tim Mayza got the win in relief. Anthony Nunez inherited a mess for Baltimore after the restart. He loaded the bases on two singles and a walk, then walked Bryson Stott on four pitches for a 3-0 lead. Justin Crawford's groundout made it 4-0.
Harper's 23rd homer of the season made it 5-0 in the fifth. The sixth added three more on Crawford's single and sacrifice flies from De La Cruz and Kyle Schwarber. Then the rain won the argument for good.
An 8-0 shutout in 5 1/2 innings is still an 8-0 shutout. The Phillies leave town with two straight wins in the series and a cleaner path into deadline Monday.
