Phillies 7, Nationals 3: Sánchez Becomes MLB's First 15-Game Winner

August 6, 2026 - Philadelphia - A night after extras went sideways, Philadelphia answered the only way that settles a series: early doubles and a starter who keeps winning.

Cristopher Sánchez became the first 15-game winner in the majors this season, Bryson Stott doubled twice, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 7-3 to take three of four in the set.

Fifteen wins, five in a row

Sánchez (15-4) allowed two runs on six hits in five innings for his fifth consecutive victory. He did not need a deep outing with the offense stacking 16 hits. He needed to set a tone after Wednesday's 11-inning loss, and he did.

Miles Mikolas (3-9) absorbed the damage, allowing six runs on 12 hits in five innings. A night earlier, Mikolas had driven in a run with a squeeze bunt as a pinch-hitter. On Thursday he was the pitcher trying to slow down a lineup that doubles for sport.

Doubles in bunches

Luis Arraez and Alec Bohm opened the scoring with consecutive RBI doubles in the first. Justin Crawford singled home J.T. Realmuto in the second. Then the third inning turned into a three-run parade: Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, and Stott all doubled, and it was 6-1 before Washington could blink.

Sixteen hits and eight doubles is the kind of night that makes a midweek series feel decided by the fifth. Andrew Pinckney hit a solo homer in the fourth for his first career hit, a nice personal moment that did not change the series math.

Series edge in the East

Philadelphia (62-54) has won five of six and remains the clearest threat behind Atlanta in the NL East. Nights like this, with Arraez already looking comfortable and Sánchez rewriting the wins leaderboard, are why the Phillies still feel like a problem in October conversations.

Washington (56-61) snapped its skid Wednesday and then ran into a lineup that refused to hit soft grounders. One 11th-inning explosion does not rewrite a four-game set when the other club answers with 16 hits the next night.

AthX Engine angle

Philadelphia finished with 14 AthX Engine team fantasy points, fifth on a slate full of blowouts and extras. Sánchez's win does not always light up a pitching board the way a complete-game gem does, but the offense carried the team score without needing one superstar line.

What it means

Sánchez as the majors' first 15-game winner is a clean midseason marker for a Phillies staff that keeps finding different ways to win series. Washington leaves town with one memorable extra-inning night and three losses it would rather forget.
