August 9, 2026 - Philadelphia - Twenty-four hours after Toronto won an 11-inning marathon on Nathan Lukes' homer, these two teams went right back to extra innings, and this time Philadelphia got the last word.
Kyle Schwarber homered twice, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 in 12 innings on a Derek Hill walk-off single.
Schwarber does the early damage, Luzardo cashes it in
Philadelphia jumped on Toronto starter Shane Bieber in the third. Schwarber's two-run homer capped a three-run inning that put the Phillies up 3-0, and Jesus Luzardo made the early lead look bigger than it was, striking out 12 over seven innings while allowing just four hits. Schwarber added a solo shot in the fifth, his second of the night, to push the margin to 5-1.
Bieber's final line, 5 2/3 innings, six hits, five earned runs, was rough, but Toronto's lineup wasn't finished. The Blue Jays scored a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to stay within shouting distance, then broke the game open with a three-run eighth that tied it at 6-6 and erased what had looked like a comfortable Philadelphia lead just innings earlier.
Extra innings, again
Neither team could finish it in regulation. Toronto and Philadelphia traded zeroes through the ninth, 10th, and 11th, a stretch that mirrored Saturday's marathon almost inning for inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays kept finding ways to extend at-bats against a Phillies bullpen that had to work far harder than a five-run lead should have required.
Toronto tied the game again in the top of the 12th to force Philadelphia's hand one more time. The Phillies didn't blink. J.T. Realmuto reached to start the bottom of the inning, and Hill's single to right brought him home for the walk-off, ending a game that had swung from comfortable to nerve-wracking and back twice over.
Back-to-back extra-inning classics
Two nights, two extra-inning finishes, one series split down the middle. Toronto won the first one late on a homer from the bottom of its order. Philadelphia won the second one even later on a walk-off from a similar spot in its lineup. Schwarber's two homers were the best individual event of either game, but neither club could turn a big early lead into an easy night, and both bullpens will feel this series for days.
