Mariners 9, Phillies 2: Cal Raleigh's First Career Three-Homer Night

Three pulls to right, and a nine-game streak ended

August 24, 2026 - Seattle - Cal Raleigh pulled three home runs into the right-field seats from the left side of the plate. Same park. Same night. First three-homer game of his career.

The Seattle Mariners beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-2 and stopped Philadelphia's season-best winning streak at nine. Raleigh finished 3-for-3 with a walk. He entered at .159. He left at .167 with 17 home runs.

Only one other Seattle catcher had done this: current manager Dan Wilson, in April 1996. Raleigh became the 13th player in franchise history to hit three in a game.

Five in the first, then Wheeler's night collapsed

Philadelphia took a 1-0 lead on Alec Bohm's RBI groundout. Logan Gilbert stranded the bases loaded by striking out Bryson Stott. That was the hinge.

Julio Rodríguez answered with a three-run homer in the bottom half. Raleigh capped the five-run first with a two-run shot off Zack Wheeler. J.T. Realmuto homered in the second to cut it to 5-2. Rodríguez scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the third. 6-2.

Raleigh and Cole Young opened the fifth with back-to-back homers and chased Wheeler. Raleigh added a solo shot off Chase Shugart in the seventh. Three pulls. Zero leftovers.

Wheeler (10-5) allowed a season-high eight runs on nine hits and five walks in four-plus innings. Four strikeouts. That is not the ace line Philadelphia rode through nine straight wins.

Gilbert kept the early mess from becoming a shootout

Gilbert (11-7) threw five innings, two runs, five hits, five strikeouts, two walks. The bases-loaded escape in the first mattered as much as the final line. Seattle's bullpen finished a 9-2 that never felt close after the fifth.

Raleigh was AL MVP runner-up a year ago with 60 home runs. Monday was the first multihomer game of this season for him, and it arrived as a full three-homer night against a club that had looked untouchable for a week and a half.

AthX Engine put Raleigh alone atop the hitter board

AthX Engine scored Raleigh at 20 hitting fantasy points, clear of every other bat Monday. The Mariners finished with 19 team fantasy points. Gilbert scored 9 pitching fantasy points. Rodríguez added 8 hitting fantasy points. Fantasy points measure the box. Price is what traders pay when the catcher page wakes up.

What's next

Aaron Nola faces George Kirby on Tuesday. Philadelphia still sits in the wild-card mix. Seattle just reminded the league that a .159 catcher can own a Monday when three balls leave the yard the same way.
