Maple Leafs 7, Oilers 2: Nylander Reaches 300

October 24, 2026 - Edmonton - Easton Cowan went in 2-on-1. Tristan Jarry stopped the first shot. Jack Roslovic got a stick on the rebound. Jake Walman tried to clear it and put it in his own net. Rogers Place had 1-0 Toronto at 14:16 of the first, and the NHL landing tagged it as an own-goal credited to Roslovic.

The Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Edmonton Oilers 7-2. Toronto is 7-4-2, four in a row. Edmonton is 8-2-1 after three straight wins, including 6-5 in a shootout against Carolina on Thursday. Shots were 32-31 Edmonton. Attendance was 18,347. Walman, Jarry, Zack MacEwen, Vinni Lettieri, Troy Stecher, and Zach Hyman are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked.

William Nylander scored twice. The empty-netter was his 300th NHL goal. Roslovic had a goal and an assist. Auston Matthews scored. Kirill Marchenko had two assists. Anthony Stolarz stopped 30 of 32. Leon Draisaitl scored twice. Connor McDavid had two assists. Jarry stopped 25 of 31. The empty-netter did not go on him.

Stolarz, on NHL.com: the vibes are great. We got a great group, an influx of kids that have a lot of energy, and they're really bringing out the best in everyone.

Matthews and Stecher before Edmonton had an answer

Matthews made it 2-0 at 5:29 of the second. Cowan sent a pass between Ryan Shea's legs. Matthews went blocker side on a 2-on-1. The club notes said Matthews and Marchenko each have a point in Toronto's first five road games.

Stecher pushed it to 3-0 fifty-four seconds later. He hit Marchenko with a lead pass, followed the play, took the return in the slot, and beat Jarry short side. Morgan Rielly had the other assist. Stecher played 79 regular-season games here from 2024-25. "Obviously, it means a lot," he told NHL.com. "Played parts of three (seasons) here and a couple of long playoff runs with them, and a lot of friendships on the other side."

Draisaitl cut it to 3-1 at 19:04 during 4-on-4. McDavid dropped it. Draisaitl scored blocker side through a screen from above the circles. That started a six-game goal streak (nine goals), the NHL recap said.

Nylander to 300, then two more firsts

Nylander made it 4-1 at 5:59 of the third, 14 seconds into Toronto's only power play. Darren Raddysh found him at the left dot. One-timer. Hyman told NHL.com they were more competitive, they won more battles, and if Edmonton gets one on those early power plays it maybe changes it.

MacEwen made it 5-1 at 13:39. Jarry stopped the first rush shot. MacEwen batted the rebound out of the air and over the shoulder. First Maple Leafs goal. First NHL goal since Oct. 14, 2024, the NHL recap said.

Draisaitl scored again at 16:35 on the power play. McDavid from behind the net. One-timer. 5-2. McDavid's season-opening point streak is 11 games (eight goals, 25 assists, 33 points), that same recap said.

Nylander shot into the empty net at 17:56. Jake McCabe the helper. 6-2. The NHL recap said he is the fourth-fastest Swedish player to 300 goals (763 games), behind Tomas Sandstrom, Mats Sundin, and Filip Forsberg. The club notes said he passed Rick Vaive (299) for sixth in franchise goals.

Lettieri scored five-hole from the left circle with 31 seconds left. Gavin McKenna the only assist. First Maple Leafs goal. First NHL goal since April 1, 2025.

Edmonton coach Mike Babcock told NHL.com he loved Thursday and hoped they would match that compete and raise it. We didn't do any of that, so that's a step back. Later: I didn't like anything about tonight. We didn't have enough guys. Toronto coach Jim Hiller: everybody played well, the goalie too. We had some really good saves, we had some really good shot blocks.

AthX Engine on a 7-2 that still got outshot 32-31

AthX Engine (our projection and scoring system) scored Draisaitl at 12.70: two goals, seven shots, a power-play bonus. Nylander is 10.30. Evan Bouchard is 8.30 with two assists and three blocks. McDavid is 7.30. Stolarz's 30-save win is 12.60. Toronto's club line is 25.40, the top team night on a 12-game Saturday. Edmonton's regulation loss floors at 0.00.

Fantasy points measure the box. Price is what traders will pay for Nylander after 300, and for an Oilers club that had McDavid's 11-game streak and still left 7-2. They move together. They are not the same number.

Track Nylander, Stolarz, Draisaitl, and both clubs on the marketplace. Toronto visits Calgary on Monday. Detroit visits Edmonton that night.
