October 9, 2026 - Detroit - Detroit had the shots. Seattle had the answers. Viktor Arvidsson tapped in a power-play rebound at 9:19 of the first, and Little Caesars Arena was 1-0. Then Berkly Catton cut through the zone on a backhand, and the rest of the night belonged to a fourth line that did not play like one.
The Seattle Kraken beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-3. Seattle is 3-2-0 and opened a five-game road trip with its first regulation win in this building, the Associated Press recap said. Detroit is 1-3-0 after a season-opening four-game homestand. Shots were 40-24 Detroit. Attendance was 17,603. The AP recap wrote the "Sell the team" chant getting louder as the score drifted.
Philipp Grubauer stopped 37 of 40. Frederick Gaudreau scored twice. Ben Meyers had a goal and two assists. Catton had a goal and an assist. Mackie Samoskevich and Vince Dunn scored. John Gibson allowed five on 15 shots in 34:05, then left. Daniil Tarasov stopped 8 of 9 in his Detroit debut. Gaudreau, Meyers, Ryan Winterton, Joshua Mahura, William Wallinder, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and Tarasov are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked.
Weathered 16-3, then 4:39, 6:59, 7:44
Detroit put 16 shots on Grubauer in the first. Seattle had five. Kraken coach Lane Lambert told NHL.com they weathered the storm because the goaltender was really good, and that the game evened out after that.
Arvidsson's power-play goal was his third straight game with one. Lucas Raymond shot from the right dot. It got through Grubauer's pads. Arvidsson tapped it over the line. Moritz Seider had the other assist. Jordan Eberle had taken slashing at 8:33. That was the only Detroit lead that lasted.
Catton tied it at 14:52. Kaapo Kakko found him cutting through the zone. Backhand over Gibson's pad. Mahura the other helper. Detroit had been outshooting Seattle 16-3 before that rush, the NHL recap said.
Wallinder made it 2-1 at 4:00 of the second, a point shot through traffic, his first NHL goal. Alex DeBrincat and Brandsegg-Nygard on the play. Wallinder told NHL.com he was surprised because he did not see it go in. He thought someone had tipped it.
Seattle scored three in 3:05. Gaudreau tied it at 4:39, knocking in a Winterton pass at the net. Meyers the other assist. Samoskevich made it 3-2 at 6:59 after a Wallinder turnover, burying Jared McCann's centering pass. Gaudreau again at 7:44, wrist shot from the left dot, Winterton and Meyers once more. Winterton told NHL.com he barely had to do anything for those two assists. Gaudreau called the chemistry huge. "We're the fourth line, but we don't think that way."
Meyers 12 seconds after the box, then a 5-on-3
Meyers took tripping at 11:53 of the second. Twelve seconds after he came out, he scored at 14:05 from Catton and Brandon Montour. 5-2. Gibson was pulled. The NHL recap had him allowing five on 15 shots, matching the box. Todd McLellan told NHL.com that anytime you pull a goaltender it says something about how you think he played, and that this was a 30-man loss: coaches, goaltenders, defensemen, forwards.
Keegan Kolesar tripped at 10:24 of the third. Ben Chiarot high-sticked 61 seconds later. Dunn snapped the 5-on-3 at 11:53 from Chandler Stephenson and Montour. 6-2. Brandsegg-Nygard, Detroit's 2024 first-round pick (No. 15), scored unassisted at 15:27 for 6-3. He told NHL.com it was mixed: first NHL goal, down four at the time. The NHL recap called him the first Norwegian to score for Detroit. Wallinder was the 35th Swede.
Grubauer faced 16, 13, and 11 shots by period and allowed one in each. Gibson saw five in the first and 10 in the second before the change. Tarasov saw two more in the second and seven in the third. Montour played 26:03 with two assists and three blocks. Dunn's power-play snap was his only point in 21:51. Eberle's season-opening four-game point streak ended, the NHL recap notes.
McLellan said Detroit liked the start and did not get rewarded, then got loose and impatient. Lambert had the other version: take the chances once the storm passed. Seattle scored six for the third time this season, tied with Colorado for the most in the league through Friday, that wrap said.
