Hurricanes 4, Flyers 1: Aho and Svechnikov, Still No Philadelphia Win

October 11, 2026 - Philadelphia - Scoreless for 30 minutes. Then Andrei Svechnikov scored from the left circle, and Xfinity Mobile Arena spent the rest of the night watching Carolina's top line take another one. Philadelphia still has not won.

The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1. Carolina is 5-1-1, five in a row after dropping the first two, four straight on the road, the NHL recap said. Philadelphia is 0-5-2, a franchise-record seven-game losing streak to open a season. Shots were 30-19 Carolina. Attendance was 18,914.

Sebastian Aho and Svechnikov each had a goal and an assist. Shayne Gostisbehere scored. Mark Jankowski scored his fourth straight game with a goal. William Carrier had two assists. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 18 of 19. Christian Dvorak scored. Joseph Woll stopped 26 of 30. Kochetkov, Carrier, Walker, Martinook, Dvorak, Seeler, Barkey, and Bonk are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked.

Carolina played without captain Jordan Staal (lower-body, late scratch). Seth Jarvis is still out after shoulder surgery. The Flyers placed Travis Konecny (lower body) on injured reserve Sunday, the NHL recap said. Oliver Bonk, recalled from Lehigh Valley of the AHL, made his season debut.

Three in 6:38, all from the same line

Svechnikov opened it at 10:16 of the second, in transition from the left face-off circle, Sean Walker the assist. The Associated Press recap said Bonk turned it over to Walker at the blue line. 1-0. Svechnikov's fourth of the season.

Gostisbehere made it 2-0 at 13:45. The NHL recap had Carrier carry it in on the right, pull up, and find Aho through the slot. Aho passed between Bonk's skates. Gostisbehere, bottom of the left circle. Both of his goals this season have come against his former club, the AP recap said, including the overtime winner here on Oct. 3.

Dvorak cut it to 2-1 at 15:26. Denver Barkey worked the right wall. Nick Seeler from the left point. The shot went off Dvorak in the left slot, the NHL recap said. 2-1.

Aho answered at 16:54. Svechnikov held it in at the blue line. Carrier went through the middle. Aho, open net, the AP recap said. The NHL recap had 11 points (six goals, five assists) in a six-game point streak. 3-1.

Gostisbehere told NHL.com it is three unique players on one line. Will is the physical presence. Svech is a big shooter. Fish is all world. That one, he said, was a freebie.

Jankowski from the high slot

The third stayed 3-1 until 15:09. Seeler blocked a Jordan Martinook shot. The puck caromed to Jankowski in the high slot, the NHL recap said. Fourth straight game with a goal (four goals). Martinook's assist gave him 200 points in 557 games with Carolina, the NHL recap said. 4-1.

Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour told NHL.com they have had a lot of hockey in a short amount of time, a couple of guys out, and 20 guys who did enough. On the Aho-Svechnikov-Carrier line, put together while Jarvis heals: quality people, different skill sets, Will does it right.

Dvorak told NHL.com they have to turn it around ASAP and not let it snowball. Flyers coach Rick Tocchet, on the 3-1 goal: they were coming, it was 2-1, and the third was a dejected goal.

The NHL recap noted the Flyers are the first team to start a season with seven straight losses since Vancouver in 2022-23. The AP recap said the 1999-00 and 2008-09 Flyers both opened 0-6-0 and later made the playoffs. Sunday was 0-5-2. That is a different shape. It is still zero wins.
