Golden Knights 6, Flames 2: Stone's Third Period Ends the Argument

October 15, 2026 - Paradise - Twenty-five seconds in, Brett Howden had already beaten Dustin Wolf glove side. Mitch Marner won a wall, threw a backhand stretch pass, and Howden roofed it from the left circle. T-Mobile Arena had 1-0 before Calgary had a shift that looked like a plan.

The Vegas Golden Knights beat the Calgary Flames 6-2. Vegas is 7-2-0, six wins in seven, 14 points, first in the NHL, the Associated Press recap said. Calgary is 1-6-0 after a 4-2 win in Anaheim on Tuesday. Shots were 33-30 Vegas. Attendance was 16,433. Carter Hart, Noah Hanifin, Jake Middleton, Matt Coronato, Dustin Wolf, Joel Farabee, Martin Pospisil, Yegor Sharangovich, Morgan Frost, and Matvei Gridin are not seeded on AthX player pages, so those names stay unlinked.

Mark Stone scored three times in the third. The NHL recap called it his second regular-season hat trick. The AP recap called it the fourth of his career. Jack Eichel had a goal and two assists. Ivan Barbashev had three assists. Hart stopped 28 of 30. Wolf stopped 27 of 33.

Howden, then Eichel short-handed

Ryan Craig told NHL.com they were ready, and that Howden shooting in stride is what they have seen. Eichel made it 2-0 at 9:34, short-handed. He picked off Sharangovich in the neutral zone and beat Wolf glove side on a breakaway. The NHL landing lists the short-handed modifier. The AP recap had Eichel with at least a point in seven of nine games and 16 points, second in the NHL.

Middleton told NHL.com Calgary was a little flat early and gave Vegas too much respect through the neutral zone. He scored his first as a Flame at 10:15 of the second, short-handed, racing down the middle off Farabee. 2-1. Forty-eight seconds later Braeden Bowman one-timed Barbashev from the right circle on the power play. William Karlsson the other assist. 3-1. Barbashev told NHL.com Bowman has been making plays and scoring, and that last year was last year.

Three for Stone in one period

Stone tapped Eichel's backdoor pass at the right post at 1:06 of the third. 4-1. He scored again at 12:10, a backhand after Hanifin's shot, Barbashev the other helper. The NHL box lists that one even strength. He finished the hat trick at 16:13 on the power play from Eichel and Marner. That is the power-play goal on the box (one PPG). Coronato scored on the power play at 18:40 from Gridin and Frost. 6-2.

Stone told NHL.com he likes playing hockey, likes scoring goals, and they won. Two backdoor tap-ins help, then a good shot from Eichel. Stick on the ice with the players they have, and you get chances. The AP recap put him at six goals, tied for sixth in the NHL.

Calgary coach Ryan Huska told NHL.com they did a lot of good things in the first, but you cannot give good teams a 2-0 lead like that. Wolf saw 33. It was not enough.

AthX Engine on a 23.20 home night

AthX Engine (our projection and scoring system) scored Stone at 14.30 (three goals, three shots, one power-play bonus). Eichel is 12.40 once the short-handed bonus from the landing is applied. Barbashev is 9.90 on three assists. Hart is 11.80 (win, 28 saves, two goals against). Vegas's team line is 23.20. Calgary's regulation loss is 4.40.

Fantasy points measure the box. Price is what traders will pay for a 7-2-0 club that just got a natural third period from its captain. They are not the same number.

Track Stone, Eichel, Marner, and both clubs on the marketplace. Pittsburgh visits Vegas on Saturday. Carolina visits Calgary on Sunday.
